This Government takes a lot to understand it's actions. WHY when you are already broke would you do this. These rivers of which the water is being bought up are now flowing at destructive levels all year round, this is NOT what nature intended it is only for buying votes in SA. "What happens when Adelaide grows more & there is NO water left." SA should develope there own water sources before they allow more population or developments. An example of the loss of water in Cobram alone is. Murray Goulburn milk Co had 440 suppliers, today it has 41 suppliers. Enough of this Governments destruction of our Rural families & Australia's food economy.
Australian food security has just been sold off for $430 million of our taxpayer dollars, and the government paid close to double what the water was even worth to do it.
Murray Watt has pulled almost 86 billion litres of water, close to a tenth of everything the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area uses to grow food in a year, off our farms and sent it hundreds of kilometres downstream to be flushed out to sea propping up South Australia's manmade lakes. They are doing it with their eyes shut, 13 years into a plan that has failed, with the science against them and their own reviews not even finished, yet the buybacks keep coming.
The maths here is not complicated. Less water in the system and prices like these make every drop dearer, dearer water makes the food we grow dearer, then that lands as a higher price on every single item in your trolley.
The inner-city politicians who signed this off and the voters cheering them on will not understand what they have done until the day their own grocery bill goes through the roof and the only fresh produce left on the shelf is shipped in from China. By then it is too late to undo.
We are not powerless and we do not have to wait for that day. We know exactly what is being done to our water and our food and the only way to stop it is to make so much noise the city can no longer ignore us. That is why I am calling for a Federal Royal Commission into water.
