When Leon and Rita Tokar purchased the property of Tokar Estate in June 1995, the land was covered in thistles, tussock grass and snakes. The plan was initially to produce grapes for their own consumption only – “to play at making wine ourselves, for ourselves”. However, the fabulous positioning of the site coupled with the extremely fertile soils made it an ideal location to undertake a modest pl

anting of Pinot Noir. With that, Leon Tokar’s vision was born and in 1996 the Vineyard itself was establishedin the Yarra Valley, with 30 acres under vines and producing premium fruit by 1998.

Our new winter menu has arrived, and it's everything you want to be eating as the temperatures drop.

Join us soon for a long lunch overlooking the vineyard. The hand-rolled gnocchi with seasonal mushrooms is a must, while the Hunter's Chicken with cous cous is made for cooler days.

Save room for dessert, with indulgent winter classics including bread and butter pudding with baked quince, or our Vanilla Creamed Rice with shortbread, roasted pears and blackberries.

And when lunch is done, wander over to the Cellar Door where roaring firepits and a glass of Tokar wine await. Extra bonus of live music this Sunday.

We've had a late change to the Shortest Lunch line-up this weekend.

While Jimmy Brisket won't be joining us, we're pretty excited about the replacement.

Leon is firing up the smoker, making his famous homemade BBQ sauce, and the Tokar BBQ is taking centre stage alongside Rita's much-loved potato salad.

Think slow-smoked meats, family recipes and a true Tokar Estate experience.

Wine will be poured, food will be smoked, and we're ready for a fantastic weekend.
