Building Our Farm Communications & AI Monitoring Network

Connecting cameras, Wi-Fi, weather, biosecurity and farm monitoring across The Gallery Farm

🪶 A regular winter visitor to The Gallery Farm

One of the things we love about living here is seeing the wildlife that shares the property with us.

Around this time each year, Jabirus — the Black-necked Stork — return to our dam to feed. We’ve been lucky enough to watch them working their way around the shallows, and last year we even captured video of one catching eels from the dam.

As we start rolling out our new camera and monitoring network across The Gallery Farm, one of the things we're particularly excited about is being able to document more of this wildlife activity throughout the year.

The cameras are being installed primarily for livestock monitoring, farm management and biosecurity, but they'll also give us an incredible opportunity to build a long-term record of the birds and wildlife that use the farm — including the visitors we probably never even know are here.

It will be fascinating to see what we discover when the farm is being watched 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

For now, enjoy one of our favourite annual visitors. ❤️

🚜 The Future Starts at the Front Gate

This isn't just a camera on a pole.

This is CS-001 — the first communications station for the SP Pastoral Demonstration Farm.

Every great project starts with strong foundations, and for us that begins with communications.

Over the coming months this station will become the hub for:

📷 AI Camera Monitoring

🌦 Weather Station

📡 Farm Wi-Fi

📊 Blue Iris AI Analytics

💧 Water System Monitoring

🐂 Livestock Observation

🔥 Fire Preparedness

📱 Remote Farm Access

This is the first step towards a fully connected demonstration farm where communications, water, livestock and Australian technology work together under real farming conditions.

Every component will be documented from planning through to installation, testing and day-to-day operation.

We're looking forward to sharing the journey as this vision becomes reality.

🚜 Technology in Action at The Gallery Farm

Innovation isn't just about buying new equipment—it's about finding practical ways to improve how we manage our farm every day.

We've just ordered the first AI camera that will become part of our new farm-wide communications network, now being developed at The Gallery Farm as an SP Pastoral & MGT Demonstration Site.

Over time, this network will integrate:

📷 AI cameras for livestock and property monitoring

📡 Farm-wide communications towers

🌦 Weather and environmental monitoring

💧 Water infrastructure and pump monitoring

🐂 Livestock observation and management

🔥 Fire preparedness and property awareness

📊 Farm analytics to support better decision making

Every component will be tested under real farming conditions before becoming part of our demonstration site.

Our goal isn't simply to install technology—it's to develop practical, reliable systems that can benefit everyday farming while showcasing Australian innovation.

This is just the beginning, and we're looking forward to sharing the journey as the project grows.

Real Farming. Real Testing. Real Results.

Winter Feeding at The Gallery Farm 🌾🐂

One of my favourite feeding stations on the farm isn't something you can buy...

It's a hollow log that we converted into a long cattle feeding trough. Rather than letting an old log go to waste, we turned it into something practical that blends perfectly into the landscape.

Winter is always the time to keep a close eye on body condition, especially with a number of our heifers carrying calves. With multiple feeding stations around the farm, every animal has plenty of space and access to quality hay, helping keep the herd calm and in great condition.

Of course, Rembrandt still insists on getting special treatment. He always comes over for a hand feed, a scratch behind the ears and a few pats before wandering off to join everyone else. Those daily interactions are one of the best parts of farming.

For us, good cattle management isn't just about infrastructure—it's about understanding your animals, providing quality nutrition, and enjoying the connection that comes from working with them every day.

Happy cows. Healthy pastures. A beautiful winter afternoon at The Gallery Farm.

Learning from a Lifetime of Experience

One of the best parts about farming is that there is always something new to learn.

Today I spent time with my Uncle Hector, showing him the plans for the new cattle yards we're building at The Gallery Farm and getting his honest opinion.

Hector has spent a lifetime working with cattle. He began his career in the dairy industry before moving into beef production when the dairy industry changed dramatically many years ago.

Now, well into his 90s, he still enjoys talking cattle, sharing ideas and offering practical advice that only comes from decades of experience.

I wasn't expecting to see the same Red River cattle yards that I'm planning to install at The Gallery Farm, so it was a real bonus to walk through them together and hear his thoughts after years of using them.

Getting his nod of approval meant a lot. Experience like his can't be found in a brochure or on a website—it comes from a lifetime spent working with livestock.

Walking through the yards reinforced that good cattle handling isn't just about buying quality equipment. It's about creating a system that's safe, practical and works well for both cattle and the people using it.

And of course, Hector's sense of humour is still as sharp as ever... his famous front gate sign probably tells you everything you need to know! 😂

As we continue developing the new SP Pastoral demonstration yards at The Gallery Farm, we'll be combining proven cattle handling principles with modern technology to create a facility that showcases both experience and innovation.

Thanks for your time, Uncle Hector. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

🚜 Building the Future at SP Pastoral

Today was an exciting milestone for SP Pastoral as we continue investing in the future of our Brahman breeding program.

We've ordered our new AgriEID heavy-duty digital scales, which will integrate with our Livestock Pro management system to help us accurately monitor cattle growth, breeding performance and herd development.

Over the coming weeks we'll also begin construction of our new cattle handling facility, including the Red River RRR48 yards, Red Diamond crush with G-Force, a permanent weighing pad, new water infrastructure and our 25,000-litre header tank.

Our herd has now grown to 16 head, with several calves due over the coming months, making this the perfect time to invest in infrastructure that will support the next stage of SP Pastoral's growth.

This is about more than new equipment. It's about building a modern, data-driven farming operation that focuses on animal welfare, productivity and continuous improvement.

We're also looking forward to introducing our new MGT pumping system, with even more exciting developments to share soon.

✨ Reimagining a Port Macquarie bathroom.

Every great renovation starts with seeing what could be.

This is my latest bathroom design concept for a renovation in Port Macquarie, transforming a standard builder-grade bathroom into a warm, contemporary space with timeless materials and clean architectural lines.

The design features:

• Laminam Fokos Talco wall cladding supplied by Studio Porcelain, the NSW distributor of Laminam.
• Warm terracotta floor tiles to add texture and character.
• Gunmetal tapware and fittings for a sophisticated, understated finish.
• A floating vanity with open timber shelving.
• A walk-in shower with fluted glass.
• A generous bath positioned to enjoy the garden outlook through the louvre windows.

My focus is always on creating spaces that are beautiful, practical and ready for construction, taking clients from the existing room to a fully resolved design before building begins.
