Early starts, long days, plenty of phone calls, a good team around you and more weather apps than anyone really needs. It’s all part of the job. 🐑📱⛅

One challenge Jon found particularly interesting this season: decision paralysis. 🐑

When you know the conditions are there, it can be easy to hesitate over just how far to push them. We’re happy with what we achieved this season, but there’s always an opportunity to do more and make the most of what’s in front of you.

Has anyone else found this in a good season? 🌱

A look at some of our maternal lambs at Springbank. 🐑

At 10 to 11 weeks, they’re already showing plenty of performance, with the ewes having nearly raised their own bodyweight in lamb.

With good feed in front of them, they’re tracking nicely towards weaning. We’ll check back in at 14 weeks with their induction weights and see how they’re performing.

Stay tuned.

Numbers like these are why we track every lamb from birth. 🐑

This ram lamb started life at 6.5 kilos and had put on 47.5 kilos by 87 days old, averaging 540 grams a day. It's a good example of why performance data matters so much at The Willows. We're not selecting rams on looks, we're selecting on what the numbers actually show.
