As many of us reflect on the year past and the new year ahead, we are excited by a group of calves we have by a bull we found soon after the SPI Indexes were released in early 2024.

Below Sea Level Nitro is an Extreme E27 son from the famed Teeka/Reba family via an influential Traffic Jam cow SPKNZ SPN F21.

He impressed us with his raw data and the fact that one of the breed’s largest and strongest performance recording herds had kept him as a herd sire.

Added to the fact he is the ONLY AI sire in the breed in the Top 10% for 3 critical traits in our program. Gestation Length, Eye Muscle Area & IMF.

This calf is the only heifer by NITRO from our spring calving. She is out of Alander Q15 from the reliable Amy family. We have a group of very impressive bull calves with the standouts being from Majestic M32 & Mellie P04.

Was refreshing checking cows tonight at 31oc compared to the past few days.

We did our first of 3 preg checks for the spring this week, each cow is scanned twice, the first time at 32-60 days this allows very accurate ageing of any bull bred matings, then again between 60-100 days to s*x the foetus and reconfirm.

Once again over 85% will calve within the first 3 weeks of calving.

Had to take this picture tonight of MONTE S38, reminded me of a similar picture of his matriarch dam a few years ago.

Exciting to see our steers at Teys-Jindalee last Wednesday at 70days on feed, we look forward to the results evening in early Feb. It was a great day meeting up with other exhibitors, organisers and the Jindalee staff. The upgrades to the facility are world class and something worth the visit if the opportunity presents itself.

On a Beef Week day trip in February, Lindy found a nice heifer at Hollycott Speckle Park. After pestering Tim for a couple of months, Doris (HOT U05) came to live at Wellerlou.
This week Doris calved a nice little bull sired by Hollycott Uzo U22.
Happy wife, happy life! 🤣

Plenty happening at Wellerlou of late, including on Wednesday we delivered our team for “The Land Beef Spectacular Feedlot Competition” at Teys Jindalee Feedlot.

They are a mixture of purebred registered and some crossbreds, sired by Wellerlou M25 MONTE S38 or Wellerlou R05 URCHIN T74, both bulls are in the Top 5% or better for all 4 indexes.

Very happy with the consistency in growth, shape and structure of these steers set ready to perform.
