Building a top herd takes generations, at Wellerlou we are using all tools possible in our toolbox including independent structural assessment, raw data collection (weights, scans, & docility), stringent reproductive performance plus Lindy’s overarching “do we want to replicate this one?”.

As a guide on how we are progressing Breedplan provide a Breedplan Report seen in attached pictures, keep in mind Speckle Park received EBV’s in 2018, and then December 2024 SPI released our indexes.

Genetics is pretty simple, “if you select for it, you will get it!”

We wanted to built a base on shortening gestation length while driving growth, we understand Speckle Park tastes different, on purpose we haven’t selected to shift Fat coverage or IMF, until we then know why Speckle Park tastes so good then we will look to shift those traits significantly.

ZANDER V126 has ticked all the boxes, super docile and structurally correct. He is a Leander son from a super correct Marlin daughter back to Morning Star Zig 1Z.

All his mates are gone, he was bred to make a cow, as Leander daughters are some of the best cows we have. They hold condition and get in calf early while rearing great calves.

ZANDER is rather versatile he would breed great replacement heifers, yet still plenty of performance for top end steers.

****Attention Autumn calving herds****

MILEY T59 and calf at foot MELIA X190 are regrettably looking for a new herd.

We are all spring calving, and despite being confirmed pregnant at 12 weeks to calve in August, MILEY T59 lost that pregnancy and got pregnant soon after and calved 6th Jan.

With a very tight season, the past few, we have culled non performers very hard, MILEY is just too good to send to the yards. Her first calf is the highest weaning ratio calf we have had to date.

MILEYS dam, MELLIE P04, has built an amazing family with now 4 female generations on the ground. Respected breeders who visit have all admired these females. MILLIE U87, a daughter of a sister to MILEY could potentially be the best female we have bred to date.

MILEY, like the family, are magic cows to work with, super docility and always functionally correct, they are also great mothers who breed back in the first 3 weeks.
