This motor runs a diaphragm pump through a gearbox which we use to dose fertilizer into the irrigation. I put peroxide through it and learned a lot about chemistry too. Nylon bad. Polypropylene good. Some fittings eroded and then there was 40 days of rain as the mainline pressure came out at the walk inside the shed.

Trying to push a liquid that is ready to bubble and create airlocks also has its challenges. We were ready to throw it out but had the simple idea of giving the peroxide more head pressure into the suction side by lifting the IBC up on the loader and voila! We are in business. The goal is to try and clean up some emitters that may be blocked.

Farming is full of small tweaks that make a big difference to productivity & lifestyle. Here are a few that improve our efficiency:

🌱 Auto-steer on the harvester to guide smoothly around the trees
🌱 Cameras in the tractors to check on bins (no more head turning!)
🌱 A double bin trailer so we only need one extra chaser at harvest
🌱 Ground sensors to track irrigation across the orchard

These little changes add up, helping us care for the grove and free up time to improve other parts of the farm.

What a night! ✨

Last night we attended the South Australian Olive Association dinner at the beautiful Sunnybrae Estate Function Centre as a family- Lisa and Jim, us “kids” and the grandkids all together. It was wonderful to catch up with old friends, meet new faces, and share the night with so many in the olive industry. Congratulations to all of the award winners! 🫒💛

What have we been doing since the end of harvest?
💛 Creating our Longridge EVOO 2025 blend
🕊️ Moving oil around for shipping to customers
🚜 Washing down the harvesters, mill and tractors
🧹 Cleaning up the shed for a visit from Men's Shed Tintinara
👨🏼‍🔧 Catching up on all the deferred maintenance jobs on other bits of equipment

And perhaps the best part? The kids are loving having Uncle, Boomy and Dad back in the sheds- there's been a lot of "helping" that looks a bit more like climbing. 💛🩷

The harvesters are back in the shed, the mill is quiet and our EVOO is settling before being shipped to its final destination! Harvest 2025 is officially complete! 🏁🫒 A big thank you to our team for powering through on some of the coldest, windiest and wettest days of the season! 🍃🥶 Thank you also to our loyal customers who have been waiting patiently to get a cask of our fresh 2025 Longridge EVOO. It won't be long now!

Now that harvest is over, we hope to show you the ins and outs of running an olive farm. There's a lot that needs to be done to ensure that there are lots of olives on the trees for next year!
