🍇🍷🫶 Three varieties. Three distinct characters. One Coonawarra w**e.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc each bring something different to Penley Chertsey. The art lies in bringing those individual qualities together, creating something none could achieve alone.

A contemporary expression of Coonawarra, shaped by w**emaker Kate Goodman and recognised with 95 points from Halliday W**e Companion.

🍷 Good w**e doesn’t need an occasion. And exceptional value makes opening it even easier!

The Real Review has named the Penley 2020 Gryphon and 2024 Francis TOP VALUE w**es. Of the Gryphon Bordeaux Blend it says: 'The plush palate carries flavour and energy, tapering off on the finish, defined by a fine slew of tannins. 90 points'. And the Francis Cabernet Franc: ‘Spice, minerality and fruit concentration within a medium-framed body and so juicy—very easy to pour another glass. 92 points.’

With the release of the 2027 Halliday W**e Companion, Penley Estate has maintained its 5 Red Star w**ery rating continuously for a decade – recognition of a long track record of excellence and consistency.

It’s an achievement that also reflects the vision and talent of w**emaker Kate Goodman, whose fresh, contemporary approach to Coonawarra has helped shape Penley and its w**es since she joined us in 2016.

Our 2022 Helios Cabernet Sauvignon was also awarded 97 Points and named in Halliday's Top 100 W**es in 2025, further recognition of Kate, the Penley team and the exceptional fruit we’re fortunate to work with.

Kate is pictured here working in the Coonawarra yesterday. A decade of accolades – including being named the 2024 Halliday W**e Companion W**emaker of the Year – hasn’t changed the most important thing – she still loves making w**e.

Join Penley w**emaker Kate Goodman for one of Coonawarra’s most entertaining long lunches – Sips in the Sticks 2026 – this Sunday at Bellwether W**es, Coonawarra 🍷

This year’s theme is ‘Surviving and Thriving’, bringing together some of South Australia’s leading w**emakers for an afternoon of great w**e, multiple courses, stories and plenty of laughs at Bellwether’s Glen Roy Shearing Shed.

And then there’s the serious business: Dessert!

In a much-loved Sips in the Sticks tradition, each w**emaker swaps the cellar for the kitchen and puts their dessert-making skills before the judges, competing for the coveted Kate Spencer perpetual trophy – a wonderful Trevor Smith crocheted tea cosy.

Kate will be representing Penley alongside Corrina Wright (Oliver's Taranga), Guy Parkinson (Skillogalee), Dave Bowley (Vinteloper), Charlotte Hardy (Charlotte Dalton W**es) and of course Sue Bell and the Bellwether crew, with chefs Clare Falzon of Staguni and Ian Perry of Red Shack Café serving up something special throughout the afternoon.

37 years. 16,000 kilometres. Still going strong. 🍷

We recently received a wonderful note from Danny on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, where he’d just opened a bottle of our 1989 Penley Prestige Blend Shiraz Cabernet.

One of Penley’s earliest vintages. Bought from a local w**e merchant for the unbelievable price of £45. And, nearly four decades after it was made, still drinking beautifully.

“What surprised me most was how alive it still was… remarkable freshness and energy.”

Not bad for an old bottle that’s travelled a very long way.

"I wasn't quite sure what to expect from a 37-year-old Australian w**e, but it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable bottles I've had in a long time."

Penley w**es are made to go the distance. This one certainly did.

🍷🍽️✨ Poured. Paired. Shared.

The Penley + Paxton W**es W**e Dinner, held at The Caledonian Hotel, North Adelaide on Wednesday 20th May, was a memorable evening of food, w**e and conversation. Hosted by our award-winning w**emaker Kate Goodman, the night also featured contributions from Paxton W**es founder and legendary viticulturist David Paxton, along with Sales and Marketing Manager for both w**eries, Brian Lamb.

It was a journey through the unique characteristics of two distinct w**e regions. Guests were treated to current and new release Penley Coonawarra w**es alongside a selection of Paxton McLaren Vale w**es, thoughtfully paired across five delicious courses.

Thanks to the chefs and staff at The Caledonian for fabulous food and hospitality, and to Belle from Nelson W**e Company. for helping make it happen.

We look forward to sharing more Penley food and w**e experiences across Australia in the near future.
