What does the ocean have to do with Coonawarra w**e? ππ·
More than you might think!
Off South Australia's coastline, a natural phenomenon called the Bonney Upwelling brings cold Antarctic water from deep ocean canyons to the surface.
This sharp drop in water temperature helps moderate temperatures on land (particularly of an evening) during the warmer months, to the surface, helping to keep Coonawarra cool and giving our grapes more time to ripen and develop their distinctive flavours.
It's one of the lesser-known secrets behind Coonawarra's unique terroir and the exceptional quality of w**es produced across the region.
In our latest of the Get to Know Coonawarra series, Ben Harris from Wynns Coonawarra explains how something happening out at sea can make a difference in the vineyard.
