This time last year we were staring down the barrel of uncertainty, a couple of weeks in to what would be four months of shutdown.

12 months on our oysters are as good as I've ever seen them and they're flying out the door!

It's International Oyster Day today, but every day is oyster day around here...

It's also Dad's birthday. 63 today, and despite explicit instructions to have a sleep in, he was at the shed at 7am... Here he is inspecting our latest batch of spat because he wouldn't let me leave him at home while we went out on the boat.

Happy Birthday old boy! 🍻

We hit 1000 followers at some point recently, so I thought I'd better actually introduce myself.

I'm Tim, and I spent my childhood thinking that oysters were as cool as wheat or wool, because we were just one of many farming families in Cowell. What I didn't really understand at the time was that we were at the frontline of a brand new industry.

It really wasn't until I came back to the farm and started Franklin Harbour Oyster Co. in 2022 that I understood what oysters mean to people; Oysters are opened before the champagne is popped at a wedding, for instance. People will see our sign at an event and make a beeline for the oyster bar, and there's nothing I love more than seeing an oyster lover's face change as a freshly shucked oyster transports them to the ocean.

When I started FHOCo. I just wanted to get our name out there, as a bay. Franklin Harbour is the birthplace of oyster farming in SA, and I had never seen us mentioned on a menu - which made me wonder who was getting credit for the ~10 million oysters that leave the harbour every year.

Four years in, we're front and centre at Adelaide's biggest food events, I've shared oysters with some of Australia's best chefs and I get photos all the time of menus from all around the country proudly displaying Franklin Harbour oysters.

I'm grateful for the position I've found myself in as an oyster guy, I love that I'm able to show my kids the cool side of the oyster game, and I'm cognizant of the fact that the cool side only exists because of the gruntwork and innovation of oyster guys before me.

NEW STALLHOLDER

There is nothing quite like fresh South Australian oysters, and this Sunday Franklin Harbour Oyster Co. will be arriving with a ute load direct from Cowell on the Eyre Peninsula.

Owned by Timothy Rehn, this family farming business grows Pacific Oysters in the sheltered, nutrient rich waters of Franklin Harbour, home to South Australia’s oldest oyster farming industry.

Pick up a box of unshucked oysters to take home, or have them freshly shucked and enjoy a few for breakfast or lunch while you wander the market. It does not get much fresher than buying them directly from the oyster farmer.

Find Timothy and family outside this Sunday from 8.30am to 12.30pm at the Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market.

Franklin Harbour Oyster Co. will be joining us monthly throughout the year.

Good news, everyone! We're at the Adelaide Showgrounds Farmers Market!

This Sunday (26/7) I'll have a uteload of these beauties at the markets, available unshucked to take home or freshly shucked to enjoy for breakfast or lunch.

We've been loyal market members for the last 10 years... The kids have grown up spending their Sunday mornings at the Showgrounds, and we can't wait to set up amongst other farmers and producers and get our oysters onto the tables of the South Australians that support us.

We'll see you there!

BEER & BBQ 2026

Well that was wild. This is most of the photos I got all weekend.

I've been to more B&BBQs than I've missed over the last 10 years, it's a highlight of my calendar every year. When I got invited to bring the oyster bar this year I knew I had to bring out the big guns.

I spent most of my spare hours over the last few months preparing... Developing recipes, building a new oyster bar, and most importantly assembling a crack team of absolute legends to help me get the job done.

There are far too many people to thank here; My family, my FHOCo. crew, the BBF team, all of the brewers and BBQ gurus, and most importantly the punters. Special shoutout to fellow nosebleed warriors Long Way Round Distilling and Tin Shed wines for their work making the balcony an incredible spot to hang for the weekend, and to Choo Roo and Nice Pickles for the sauce and pickles.

FHOCo. worldwide, baby. We did it.

Unreal day at Scotch for the Old Colls Ladies Day today... After the women's team had a good win last night, the boys all came out swinging today and made it 4/4 for the weekend.

Oysters were good too.
