Spring arrives tomorrow, and Tropic Sweet got the memo winning the prize this year of first to blossom. (Nearly).

Right on cue, our Tropic Sweet apple tree has started to blossom, bringing the first little signs of the new season to the orchard.

After months of bare branches, it’s pretty exciting to see the orchard waking up again. Here’s hoping the bees are ready for the busy season ahead. 🐝🌱

Grafting is the process of joining a scion to a rootstock, combining the best qualities of both to encourage strong growth and improve disease resistance. 🌱🍎

Here, the grafting tool cuts a matching shape into the top of the rootstock and the bottom of the scion. When the two pieces are lined up, they fit neatly together, then it’s simply a matter of securing the graft with tape and letting nature take over.

A little precision now for our apples in the future. 🍏✨

First year our Feijoas being in the ground, getting their roots established. They still managed to fight off the birds and give us a sample of what lies ahead….

But still just like that Feijoa season is finished…. At our place anyway.

This is our pick from 2026.

What can I say. More than last year! ?

When we say we are establishing an orchard, we always take time to explain that it’s going take time to get a good crop. Maybe A few more years?

Let alone the challenge of birds, frost, long winters, biennial trees, disease.

Will there be enough to make an estate cider? We’ll see. Maybe a couple special champagne bottles. Maybe a touch of pear! 🍐
