Our flocks produce the freshest eggs with wonderful yellow yolk and we want to share them with you. When we have excess we make them available for others
Sharing stories of our flocks with you through this page is a lil bit of fun. Let's start at the beginning, we purchased a small little house with a nice sized back yard in the Northern suburbs, it backed onto a rivulet and grassy reserve area.
A nice spot for chickens we thought....
I worked with an organisation that support and re-home unwanted animals, so as it were; we would often have chooks surrendered, I'd take them home and settle them into our makeshift space. I fell in love with our oldest hen when she was handed in as a stray, she is an Isa Brown Hen aptly named "Henny" I took her in and gave her a home just until her owners came forward.... but no one came. Needless to say I felt sad for Henny but I was extremely over the moon when I got to tell her she could stay with us permanently. We borrowed a temporary enclosure for her to live in while we planned to build a more permanent cosy home. She was so happy chilling with me during the evenings and weekends as I weeded the garden beds, we would often came across big juicy worms that she would gobble up quickly. Over the next few months we took in a few more chooks "Chick" and "Chooken" both bush chooks that had been rescued from the side of the road as young ones. Then there was "Hattie" possibly a little Plymouth Rock x breed gorgeous girl. She is a part of the flock now though and potters around with everyone. So we got the lovely chicken coop built and they all love it getting in there during the day to lay their gorgeous golden eggs or to cuddle up with their sisters at night to keep safe and warm. Moving to Crabtree from the northern suburbs was the BEST thing EVER. So much peaceful green space, amazing wildlife and colour. And so the story continues...
