Woodbourn is owned and run by Charles Wallace who began breeding Murray Greys as a teenager in 1969 and has maintained a passion for Murray Greys ever since. His dedication to the breed has remained steadfast, as has his adherence to strict breeding objectives. As stated in his Mission statement, Charles searches the country for new bloodlines to continue his aim of producing superior genetics for his clients to maximise their profitability in an atmosphere of trust, reliability and good humour. Woodbourn produces a consistency of type in its cattle, which allows for an even line of guaranteed bulls and females to be offered every year in an on farm production sale in May, and gives buyers confidence in selecting a quality animal from anywhere in the offering. Woodbourn plans to continue its balanced breeding program, producing cattle which are moderate to large framed, quiet, structurally sound, easy doing and with well balanced Breedplan figures.

Wow! What can I say! I guess thankyou would be a good place to start.
Thankyou to all those people who supported the Woodbourn Murray Grey Sale on Monday. We appreciate how many people return to Woodbourn year after year and we appreciate newcomers to our sale.
We are also grateful for all the help we have putting a sale like that together...marvellous.
The sale was a cracking success and the cattle looked magnificent.
The bulls averaged $11105, the cows $5875, the stud heifers $3979 and the commercial heifers an amazing $3566.
The top price bull went for $23 000 and was bought by a commercial breeder, with the runner a commercial breeder as well. A great show of strength for the Murray Grey breed. I'll show a photo of him below. He was a stand out from the beginning.

FYI... did you know that Charles Wallace started his Woodbourn Murray Grey stud in 1969 as a teenager. Murray Greys were a new breed in Australia and certainly in Tasmania. To familiarize cattle breeders about his grey cattle, Charles took large teams of show cattle to shows from September through to March each year ... sometimes with teams of 16 animals.
He was the second to adopt the use of Breedplan as an objective tool and he played a very active role on the Murray Grey board.
His faith in the Murray Grey breed has never wavered and this year, he once again presents a magnificent line up of 40 bulls and 36 females at his 47th annual on farm production sale. it is a live on farm auction and is interfaced with Auctions Plus. Phone bidding is also available.

It's a boy! Second chance to buy a magnificent Woodbourn autumn calving matron with a bull calf at foot. As I have said, Woodbourn only sells female calves at foot in its adult female section, but these autumn calving cows have calved after the selection and lotting and photographing process... so... your win.
There are 11 feminine adult Woodbourn females for sale this year as well 12 stud heifers. The heifers are pregnancy tested in calf and the spring calving adult females have a large calf at foot and are in calf again - a three in one package.

The second of our big Woodbourn autumn calving females has just calved. The first one, Lot 51 had a beautiful male calf and this one, had a beautiful healthy calf, s*x unknown to me for the moment! I will let you know when I find out tonight.
So that is two our of three who have calved. There are travel restrictions on travel for baby calves and also heavily pregnant cows (details in the catalogue).

The Woodbourn sale is now only two weeks away, and all the final tasks associated with a sale are being completed. As you are now aware, we filmed the videos of the sale cattle last week and I noticed this lovely heifer waiting calmly for her turn. She looked so lovely standing there, I wanted to show you. She is Lot 53, 4W24V65. We are offering twelve stud heifers and twelve commercial ones, as well as, of course, 40 bulls and 11 adult females.

calf.
There are three autumn calving cows being offered in the Woodbourn Murray Grey Sale and they are all similar to this big beautiful female. Because they are autumn calving and obviously on the point of calving now, there are conditions on their travel. Details of this are in the sale catalogue.

These Woodbourn sale bulls are relaxing after their filming on Tuesday.
Today we are videoing the Woodbourn adult sale females and their calves... then the stud heifers.
It can be challenging getting the calves to walk on the camera side of their mother but hopefully it will go well.
