Meet Ted 🐾

Ted is one of our resident working dogs here at Markdale and an important part of daily life on the property.

Working dogs play a huge role in helping our manager and staff run the farm, with an incredible instinct, fierce drive and genuine love for their work. Whether it’s moving sheep through the paddocks or helping guide cattle, Ted is always eager to help and ready to tell the stock where to go.

Intelligent, loyal and always wanting to please, a good working dog quickly becomes more than just part of the team.

Of course, Ted is also always ready for one more thing… a pat. 🐑🐂❤️

Such a fantastic event for the Southern Tablelands! The Crookwell Garden Festival is back on 7-8 November 2026.

There is nothing quite like spring in our Edna Walling garden. We can't wait to share the stunning blooms, the heritage, and the country air with you all this November!

A different perspective of our famous Edna Walling garden here at Markdale 🌿

Edna Walling was one of Australia’s most influential landscape designers, renowned for creating gardens that blended seamlessly with the natural landscape. Her designs at Markdale featured winding stone paths, layered plantings, soft edges and inviting spaces that complemented the property’s rich history and rural setting.

Markdale itself has a long history, with the property becoming well known for its distinctive horse head design visible from above — a unique feature that has become part of the identity and story of the homestead and gardens over the years.

Standing in these gardens today, we’re reminded of the timeless beauty she created and the vision she brought to country homes like Markdale decades ago.

A beautiful reminder to pause and appreciate the spaces around us. 🍂🌱
