Well, dang.

ALTO is thrilled to share the good news
that landed in our inbox yesterday afternoon…

Our three beloved finishing oils in the ALTO extra virgin olive oil portfolio, ALTO Delicate, ALTO Robust & ALTO Vividus, have all taken out the top spots in their respective classes at the Sydney Royal Fine Food competition this year.

A trifecta of gold medals for every oil we entered,
each with their own unique & vastly different
aromas & flavour profiles.

Two new season EVOO blends, ALTO DELICATE & ALTO ROBUST, blended with love & careful attention to detail by Westerly Isbaih from premium varietals grown, nurtured, and processed onsite, in our groves
in Victoria.

And the single varietal, single estate EVOO, from the last harvest of Hardy’s Mammoth olives at Hopeful Ranch in NSW, our final batch of ALTO Vividus EVOO.

To say we are chuffed, is an understatement.

But when you have so many passionate & knowledgable people working with carefully selected olive trees, meticulous management of the groves, attentive processing of the fruit into oils, and
the tasting and blending of the oils
into the final product, you are
bound to create something
pretty special.

Our naturally brined ALTO Misto table olives have
also taken out a solid Silver medal amidst some
excellent competition.

Thank you Savour And Grace for having us at your fantastic producer showcase event in Melbourne yesterday.

Pulling together so many outstanding local
and international growers, producers,
& makers together in one room
is no small feat.

Kudos to the whole team for the huge effort.

It was wonderful to have the opportunity to present our suite of new season ALTO 2026 harvest oils, our naturally brined table olives, and our agrodolce vinegars, and to share the new chapter of the ALTO story with everyone.

And wonderful, too, to catch up with

Before we announce the next chapter
in the story of ALTO Olives, we would
like to take a moment to wish it’s founder,
Robert Armstrong, aka Papa ALTO,
a very happy (second) retirement.

What started as a curiosity about olives,
after retiring from the rat race of corporate life,
combined with a love of a special patch of land,
eventually became ALTO Olives.

It was a passion project that progressed into a successful & well regarded family business.

It was never a money making exercise, although the day that the books went from red to black, was certainly a good one.

ALTO was a way of being in deep relationship with the land at Hopeful Ranch, of regenerating it back to life after decades of overgrazing, of working with the generosity of ancient & noble olive trees to produce delicious and nutritious food for our fellow humans, and of contributing positively to the world around us.

The first of the olive trees were
planted at Hopeful Ranch in 1997.

And the last 29 years have
been a beautiful, challenging,
and importantly, fulfilling,
part of Robert’s life journey.

And now, almost three decades
after the first trees were planted,
Robert is hanging up his electric
pruning secateurs, and heading
somewhere coastal to reconnect
with the ocean, to read all the books,
and to have a well deserved rest.

On a personal note,
I want to say what a
precious joy it has been
working with my Dad for
the last two decades.

He gave me the gift of
introducing me to olive
trees, and of knowing what
it means to be in loving relationship
with the land, and all the life
contained within it.

And for this,
I am forever
grateful.

Thank you,
Papa.

Wherever we go and
whatever we do
a part of our hearts
will remain ever
Hopeful.

At it’s heart, the story of ALTO Olives
is the story of growing, building,
and nourishing connection.

Connection to the land.

Connection to good food.

Connection to the seasons.

Connection to good health.

Connection to community.

Connection to an ancient and noble fruit tree that has provided light, medicine, and nourishment, to
humans across many cultures, for many
thousands of years.

And continues to do so today.

We are grateful to everyone who has
been involved in the ALTO story so far,
and we very much look forward to sharing
the next chapter with you…

distribution partners.

So many magnificent meals eaten.
So many lovely libations drunk.
So many great chats.

So much connection
and conviviality in
and around the

We have hosted so many fab food industry folk at Hopeful Ranch over the last two decades.

So we thought we’d take a little trip down memory lane over the next few days sharing some lovely moments with the many humans who have joined us on the farm, walked our groves, shared our table, and participated in the ALTO story so far.

Good morning!

Apologies for the prolonged period of silence on here.

Things have been busy at Hopeful Ranch with the harvest, and some big changes in progress,
but more on that next week.

Today we’d like to share the good news that we harvested our beautiful Hardys Mammoth olives this year, as well as some standout Volos, and pressed them at our friend Frank’s mill.

The Hardy’s Mammoth is the olive that makes our ALTO Vividus EVOO, and we are pleased to share that it is available again in limited quantities from our Carriageworks Farmers Market stall as of today,
and from our key distributors as of next week.

We also produced limited amounts of an outstanding and high polyphenol unfiltered Novello EVOO, featuring our deliciously herbaceous Volos combined with an intensely fruity Hojiblanca from our friend’s grove in the Goulburn Valley.

This is also available from today till it’s sold out on our Carriageworks Farmers Market stall, or from Two Providores as of next week.

You can tell that Papa ALTO, aka the big boss, was pleased as punch with them, and we know that you will be too.

The rest of the new season 2026 ALTO suite of extra virgin olive oils are currently racking off, and they will be available towards the end of July.

Meanwhile, watch this space as we have
important news to share very soon…
