👩‍🌾The Ultimate Farmers Kitchen in Cudgen — seasonal, local. Mate & Matt's Farm Fresh Fruit & Vegetables first opened to the public in Novemeber 2001. Since 2001, our little roadside store has become known and loved in Cudgen, Kingscliff and surrounding areas for sourcing and providing the freshest and best locally produced fruit & ve

getables. Our store began as the retirement project of a man affectionately known as 'Matey'. He created it, he nutured it and he watched as it blossomed. Sadly we lost Mate in Novemeber 2010, however his shop will always bear his name as a tribute to him. Matt is Matthew Prichard, Mate's eldest son who now runs the bustling farm and shop in partnership with his youngest brother Henry Prichard. Together they farm 70 hectares of Sweet Potatoes across 6 Cudgen farms. You can find more information over at Cudgen Road Farms page. They are sold direct ot Coles Supermarkets around the country. You can get our premium quality sweet potatoes year round in our shop. Strawberries are a must buy at Mate and Matt's. They have the best flavour from the red soil of Cudgen. Sweet corn is always picked fresh and enjoyed that day by our customers. We also have bananas delivered everyday and freshness is guarenteed. We supply the freshest local produce available. Over the past twenty years we have grown & diversified to offer our customers more than just fruit & vegetables. We now offer Cudgen produced Free Range Eggs, a range of home made pickles, chutneys and jams, Macadamia nuts grown in Tumbulgum, Tweed Valley produced Honey and fresh flowers via Cudgen Flower Farm delivered daily. We strive to provide our community with the best local farmgate produce 365 days a year. Our staff are willing, helpful and knowledgable on what's in season and what is full of flavour as the seasons change and months progress. Feel free to ask them any questions when choosing your fruit and vegetables, they are always happy to help. Damien our manager is onsite full time to assist you in any way he can.

These fresh Cudgen peas travel all of a few minutes down the road before they land in Mate & Matt’s.

Grown by people we love, on farms you drive past every day.

Keeping local food local.
That’s always been the point. 🤍

💯We don’t claim to be the cheapest.
💥We do claim to back local.

Local farmers, growers, makers, bakers and small batch producers. We prioritize low food miles & we know where your food comes from. We pay our staff above award wages, employ locals and give back to our community.

Could we do things cheaper? Probably.
‘Cheap’ isn’t the only measure of value. 🌱

💥Low food miles is where it’s at.
🥬Where was your food grown?
🚚 What distance has it travelled to your plate?
❓What has happened to it along the way?

All of these questions are the questions consumers what to know the answers to often. Real farmers know the answers to these questions. A big supermarket does not.

💥Every now and then, you welcome someone into your workplace who doesn’t just fit the team…. they make it better.

Isaac is one of those people.

When you run a family business, every new person you bring in matters. You hope you’ve made the right call, but you don’t really know until they roll up their sleeves and get stuck in.

We definitely got this one right. Since Isaac joined us in October last year, he’s been an absolute ripper! 💥

He’s always smiling, always happy to lend a hand and always up for whatever needs doing. Nothing ever seems to be too much trouble.

Then there are the hidden talents.

Every week we discover something else he can do. Floristry? Yep. Concreting? Yep. Artistic signage? Yep. Need something built, fixed or sorted? Chances are Isaac’s already onto it.

It’s not any of those things that make Isaac such a great part of our team. It’s his attitude.

He genuinely cares. He takes pride in his work, gets stuck in without being asked, notices the little things and just quietly gets on with it. He’s the sort of person every workplace hopes to find, but not many do.

More than anything though, he’s just a bloody good bloke. Genuine, easy to be around and someone who makes coming to work a better place for the rest of us.

We bloody glad you accidentally responded to that Seek advert! 🤣 Thanks for everything you do. If you see Isaac around, say G’day 👋🏼

💖One of the greatest privileges of running a family business is watching people grow.

🫶🏼Somewhere over the past three years, Sara stopped being just an employee and became someone we simply couldn’t imagine this place without.

She never asked for recognition. She just turned up, worked hard, cared deeply and made everyone around her better.

She earned the respect of our team, the trust of our family and the love of so many of our customers. Those things can’t be taught, they’re simply who she is.

And because she’s Sara, she’s worked right up to 39 weeks pregnant… still throwing crates of lemons around with a smile on her face. Our reminders that she’s growing a human, not training for Hyrox were often met with a swift bit of banter! 🍋

😘Thank you for everything you’ve poured into Mate & Matt’s. You’ve left your fingerprints all over this place, and we’ll all feel the space you leave while you’re away.

As much as we’re going to miss you, our hearts are so full knowing you’re about to begin the greatest chapter of your life.

We already know you’ll be an amazing mum.

We love you more than words can say, and we honestly can’t wait to meet the little person who’s been keeping us all guessing for the last nine months. Pink or Blue? 💖💙

You’ll always have a home with us at Mate & Matt’s. 🏡

🕰️TWENTY EIGHT YEARS

That’s how long Zanzibar Kingscliff has been buying their produce from our family. 🍠

Long before ‘shop small’ became bougie, Alex or Leanne were driving out to our shed in Cudgen, loading up boxes of sweet potatoes for what would become Zanibar’s famous hand cut sweet potato wedges. Authentically skin on. Back in the late 90’s, this tells us Zanzibar was well ahead of the trend.

🍠 For the first 10 years, there weren’t even regular wedges on the menu, just Cudgen sweet potato wedges only.

Today, Alex’s son Aziz carries on the tradition of running the cafe and not much has changed. Every week they still roll into our shed, and every week around 40kg of our Cudgen Road Farms sweet potatoes head back to Zanibar’s Kingscliff kitchen to be turned into the finest hand cut sweet potato wedges.

Our story together has never just been about sweet potatoes.

When we were growing tomatoes, Zanibar bought boxes of them straight from our farm. Over the years they’ve filled their kitchen with our ginger, silverbeet, kale and whatever else we could grow. If it came out of our paddocks, there was a good chance Alex wanted it on his menu.

Zanzibar underpins the true ethos of local.

It’s easy to talk about supporting local, but this is what it actually feels like. Families backing families. Businesses growing alongside each other. Nearly three decades of a common understanding and a silent nod to shared success. These are the kind of relationships we value the most.

🫶🏼Thank you to the Kamaoui Family for your decades long support.

As farmers, there’s something pretty special about knowing the food you’ve grown has earned a place on the same local menu for 28 years.

😋If you’re a local, you’ll already know just how good the Zanibar menu is.

If you’re new in town, do yourself a favour & swing into the main drag, slide into a bench seat and order the Moroccan Burger with a side of Cudgen sweet potato wedges.

Go and support our neighbours.
Local businesses are strongest when we back each other. 💪🏼
