Final corn harvest this week. We've been enjoying corn on the cob for dinner and kids snacks while they are exploring the garden. But now all of the remaining corn needs picking. So the sweetest kernals get frozen, the rest are fermented or dehydrated and ground into corn meal. I have actually never tried grinding dehydrated corn before, but I'm excited to experiment with it.
The cobs were put through the blender so the chooks and worms in the worm farm would make better use of them. I decided to blend them up this year after still seeing cobs in the chook pen a year later. The gamble payed off because the chooks gobbled it all up in a matter of minutes.
Did you know corn silk has so many benefits for your gastrointestinal and urinary systems. So the silk is also saved and dried for adding to herbal infusions and I'm also experimenting with soaking it it vodka to make a tincture.
