Livestock performance starts from the ground up — with quality feed.

No matter how strong the genetics, achieving top results is difficult without the right feed and nutrition behind them.

That’s why we believe in growing a diverse range of pastures to provide a reliable, high-quality feed source throughout the year.

One of our personal favourites is the Subzero brassica and barley blend — delivering impressive bulk, rapid early establishment, and excellent regrowth potential to keep feed in front of stock longer.

🌱 3rd regrowth for the season… and this sorghum still isn’t finished yet 👀

Here it is again, throwing fresh shoots from the base and showing why sorghum is known for its resilience.

It’s amazing how some plants just refuse to give up, and when feed is valuable, regrowth like this can make a real difference.

The big question is… will it make enough feed for a 3rd graze before the frosts and cold slow it up?

Some reckon winter is about to pull the handbrake on for sorghum growth… others think there’s still another decent bite left in it.

What do you reckon — has this sorghum got one more run left before the cold sets in?

And just like that the 3 bins are full ready to go for another few laps,

the first bin is full of urea a high nitrogen fertiliser (46% nitrogen)

The second bin is 18:20 (DAP) which is 18% nitrogen and 20% phosphorus.

The third bin is Titan barley that has been treated to help protect the plant through the growing season as-well as assist the plant with essential nutrients

The urea gets put just below the 18:20 and grain band as this allows the plant to get established before the boost of nitrogen

Have you ever noticed the ants suddenly start building fresh mounds right before rain?

One of the most fascinating parts of life on the land is watching nature predict the weather before any app or forecast does. The ants suddenly come alive — pushing fresh soil to the surface and working flat out as if they already know what’s coming. And somehow… they do.

Scientists believe ants can sense tiny changes in air pressure, humidity, and moisture levels long before humans ever notice them. Out here, when the ant mounds start rising across the paddocks, it’s often the first sign rain is on the way. Some old timers even believe the higher the mound, the bigger the weather system that’s coming.

Makes you realise just how connected nature really is.

We trialled some Chomper forage sorghum from AlfaGen seeds this year. Normally we don’t get reliable summer rain for sorghum, but a few hectares felt worth a try—and it paid off. With the late Feb rain and hot weather, it really took off: 9 days to emerge, 14 days to 2-leaf, then rapid growth after that.

At 6kg/ha (~$50/ha), it’s not cheap for summer forage in our environment, but when conditions line up, the feed value is huge. I wouldn’t go big—just small areas. If it works, it goes a long way; if it doesn’t, losses stay manageable.

Key point:
-Ensure sufficient ground cover
-Only sow if confident in summer rain
-Make sure to read up on the variety you plant and how early it can be grazed.
-it has fast regrowth so if soil moisture is available graze hard then remove livestock to get another graze.
-once established it has a big root system to chase moisture.

This season we introduced a line of young ewes, bringing fresh genetics into the flock. With strong meat and wool prices, along with excellent pasture growth from early rains, it presents a great opportunity to maximise returns. The newly purchased ewes have just started lambing, and we’re looking forward to seeing the potential of this new generation come through.

Last week, we sold 199 of these ewes aged five years and older. The ewes were in strong condition, averaging 72 kg live weight and achieving an average carcass weight of just over 30 kg, equating to a dressing percentage of 42%—a solid result for older ewes.

We secured a carcass price of $8.20/kg, along with an average skin value of $26 per head for nearly six months’ wool.

This resulted in an average return of $265 per head, with a top price of $285 per head.

Weighing and drafting ewes and lambs pre-joining was carried out using custom draft lists, built from key data stored against each electronic tag. Drafting criteria included age, weight, s*x, breed, and classing, among other parameters.
With this setup, the auto drafter consistently put through 800–900 sheep per hour.

The system seamlessly read tag data, captured live weights, recorded information, and drafted animals simultaneously.
