This week, we welcome Nalan Seafoods — 100% Aboriginal owned and led by Mr Robert (Bo) Carne and Ms Sharon (Shay) Vigona-Goudge, two respected leaders with extensive experience across government and not-for-profit sectors. An exciting new wholesale seafood distribution business based in Darwin, officially commencing operations in December 2025.

Bo is of Bardi and Jabirr Jabirr heritage from the Dampier Peninsula in Western Australia, while Shay is of Tiwi Island and Warumungu heritage here in the Northern Territory — bringing strong cultural identity and leadership into the seafood industry.

The name Nalan, meaning “spring tide” in the Bardi language, reflects the business’s fresh approach and strong connection to sea, country, and opportunity.

Nalan Seafoods provides both fresh and frozen seafood to:

Interstate markets
Local retailers
Hospitality venues
Institutional clients

With a focus on high-quality, sustainably caught seafood, the business is investing in advanced logistics and cold-chain management while also building strong relationships with Aboriginal communities to create employment pathways and supply partnerships.

In just the first two months of operation, Nalan Seafoods has already made significant progress — including major capital improvements and the negotiation of key supply agreements. Bo has successfully secured an extensive five-year seafood supply contract, providing a strong foundation for the business’s growth and long-term success.

We look forward to seeing Nalan Seafoods continue to thrive and contribute to the Northern Territory’s economy, seafood sector, and Aboriginal business leadership.
