Australian has some of the best seafoods in the world… make Australian Seafoods your choice

Country of origin labelling laws for seafood in hospitality settings are here.

Hospitality business selling dishes that contain seafood must label the origin of the seafood you serve using the AIM model.

A - Australian

I – Imported

M – Mixed

These changes became mandatory from 1 July 2026.

By Labelling the country of origin of the seafood, consumers have a clearer choice when deciding what to eat.

Nalan Seafoods supports Territory seafood and Australian seafood more broadly.
We all prefer Australian steel, gas, beef, chicken, lamb, pork, and even Aussie made furniture over inferior imports… So why not support the best seafood, Australian seafood!

A new era for Australian seafood starts today.

From 1 July, hospitality venues across Australia must tell diners where their seafood comes from, giving Australians the confidence to make informed choices and support local producers.

For the first time nationally, restaurants, cafés, pubs and takeaway venues must clearly identify whether the seafood they serve is Australian, imported or a mix of both, bringing greater transparency to menus and helping diners make informed choices.

But here in the Northern Territory, we've been leading the way.

Since 2008, the Territory has required hospitality venues to identify imported seafood, becoming the first jurisdiction in Australia to introduce seafood provenance labelling. Today, the rest of the nation catches up.

To mark this important milestone, we're proud to launch the NT Seafood Month and Seafood Trail in September, proudly supported by the Northern Territory Seafood Council and the Northern Territory Government.

The NT Seafood Trail is your guide to discovering restaurants, cafés, pubs and tourism operators proudly serving Northern Territory seafood. Whether you're craving wild-caught reef fish, mud crab, prawns, barramundi, snapper or Spanish mackerel, the Trail will connect you with venues championing the very best of our waters.

More than just a dining guide, the NT Seafood Month and Seafood Trail celebrates the people behind every catch, from our commercial fishers and aquaculture producers to the chefs and hospitality businesses proudly showcasing Territory seafood on their menus.

Throughout the year, and especially during NT Seafood Month this September, the Trail will feature seafood specials, chef collaborations, unique dining experiences and opportunities to meet the producers behind the produce.

When you choose NT seafood, you're choosing fresh, sustainable, world-class produce and supporting an industry that is vital to the Territory's economy, communities and identity.

Know your seafood. Support local.

The NT Seafood Month + Seafood Trail is bought to you by the team at Territory Taste and Sprout, with support from the Northern Territory Seafood Council, Hospitality NT and the seafood Industry.
