After many decades of service in the Northern Territory, the Karen Sheldon Group is taking a long overdue break from catering including the operation of our beloved Speakers Corner Cafe. 😴 We have worked with so many wonderful people, and watched many amazing careers blossom, and we now feel it is time for some new individual adventures. 🌱

We thank all the amazing people we have worked with over the years, from first time apprentices 🎓 to brilliant chefs 👨‍🍳 from far-flung countries- and the many trainers who have worked with us to share skills and experience to the next generation. Thank you all for carrying our vision forward every day you worked for us.

From our early days of travelling across country to Kununurra with a road train full of food for the Kimberley Moon Festival 🌕, to 13 years running up and down the hills of Hidden Valley for the V8 Supercars 🏎, we have certainly stretched our creative minds and legs 🏃‍♀️ as we watched the iconic Territory spirit grow.

A special thanks to the 4th founding member of Karen Sheldon Catering, Julie Calvert who was the master of our kitchen in the early days and now operates the gorgeous Little Miss Flowers - Fresh & Faux Florist. 🌸 And to Michelle Byrne , our dedicated bookkeeper turned CFO who has been keeping us in line since 2004. We couldn't have done it without you both! 💕

While we contemplate what’s next and get back our evenings and weekends for a while, we are excited to see what the future has in store. 👀

We have been honoured to have been supported in our delivery of catering services by hundreds of wonderful clients and Territory suppliers over so many years. We want to thank each and every one of you for joining us on our journey, and we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas 🎄 filled with laughter, great company and delicious food! 🙏

We have cancelled this evening's Sundowner at Speaker's event out of respect for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and given our proximity to Government House.

Government House will open to the public for personal condolences. Dates and times will be published later today on The Administrator of the Northern Territory page.

This week the Karen Sheldon Group hosted four students from remote NT communities taking part in some work experience in all the different areas of our business operations!

Thanks to the help of ALPA, these four lucky students travelled to Darwin, getting the chance to see some behind-the-scenes work on how we cook and package Karen’s Kitchen Meals that are sent out all through the Northern Territory. They got to learn all about the benefits of Kakadu plum powder that’s included in each of our dishes!

They also got to test their customer service skills, spending a day at Speakers Corner Cafe, dishing up meals and serving customers at Parliament House. They did some fantastic work!

Over two days, the students also spent some time with Karen Sheldon Training - RTO: 70045, working between the Hair and Barbering Academy and Early Childhood Education and Care.

Between serving customers, chopping onions, hair modelling and seeing what it takes to work in Childcare, we hope they had fun; we sure did!

Last week we delivered our catering to INPEX Australia staff and their families for a NADOC week celebration. Check out this sneaky shot of our staff who got to dress up in these fabulous fire-retardant onesies to deliver food to 700 people on site!

Shout out to our Indigenous apprentice chef Derek (pictured left) who helped to prepare, cook and deliver all the meals! 👏
