Another Daylesford market day and a rainy start. A bit thin on the ground in terms of punters but being in the school grounds rather than the soggy playing
field makes it feel more intimate. Thanks to locals and visitors for braving the cold . And thanks Annie Smithers for my morning doughnut. TMDxx

What to eat for lunch when you're cooking biscuits for the Glenlyon food and wine Fayre and all you have are biscuit ingredients- porridge of course. Rolled oats currants coconut and nuts and brown sugar on the top. Trying now to convince myself it's healthier than eating a couple of freshly baked biscuits straight out of the oven- haha. TMDxx

Next Sunday sees Glenlyon celebrating with the annual Food and Wine Fayre. So I'm cooking up a storm- today a sea of Belgium double choc, choc dipped biscuits tomorrow I'll be in a whirlwind of blue cheese and sesame- these biscuits marry so well with a glass of wine. And there will be plenty of that on offer at the Fayre. So do come along- it's a fun day and every one is under cover. TMDXX

This week I took a trip to Sydney Road and my friend and I did our own "food safari" visiting the likes of the Mediterranean Wholesalers- a gigantic food store filled with so many of my favourites- huge jars of beautiful anchovies, plump Bariole olives, jars of wild baby onions and artichoke hearts glistening in oil, as well as the best looking fennel salami, soft finely sliced proscuitto and the biggest cacciatore sausage that I will need friends over for dinner to help me eat it, cooked slowly with Puy lentils. And.....over on one side of the store was what I had really come for, my Sicilian breakfast treat- strong rich espresso coffee and ricotta filled cannoli and doughnuts Italian style. Heaven.
Heading for the check-out the trolley was filled with delicacies and Sicilian wines that we found (another treasure).
Then it was down the road a little further to the A1 Bakery- a fabulous Lebanese bakery/cafe and although we didn't need to eat how could we resist fresh kibbeh and falafel and shanklish cheese pastries!!
If you love tea then you must visit Impala and Peacock- Melbourne's tea atelier. a lovely tea shop with an amazing chandelier and a dignified feeling.
But there's more- the lebanese sweet shop- oh lordy lordy. I goggled through the window until I could no longer resist, and was then plied with little tasters. So generous
Theres more so much more but I will elaborate in another post

Last weekend was market day in Daylesford - lots of people visiting because of Easter but would you believe the wasps visited as well, uninvited - and hung around my stall looking like flies to some people, which meant they didn't want to taste my truly madly delicious biscuits. The rest of the potential customers knew them for what they were and didn't want to come taste for fear they would be stung!!! Bring on the cool weather I say.
But thanks to all those who bought biscuits. I appreciate your custom. TMDxx

It's Chill-Out weekend and Daylesford Farmers Market tomorrow morning- does this mean that people will be out and about "chilling" and having a good time? I do so hope so. Against all odds I have whipped up a storm for the markets and as well as the usual TMD biscuits thereis my ohh so gooey chocolate brownie, snow white meringues teamed with pots of home made tangy lemon curd- an instant dessert if you pick up some berries at the market too,GF ginger biscuits and also Orange Chocolate Polenta biscuits for those of you who are gluten intolerant.
I have also made some Simnel Cakes and Kourembietes ( a greek festive biscuit) that I will have for tasting, and if you like them and wish to order for Easter you may. Simnel Cake is an Easter fruit cake with spices and marzipan, so if you love marzipan this is a cake for you. Kourembietes are crescent shaped biscuits made with freshly ground walnuts and are drenched in icing sugar. Stop by my stall and enjoy a tasting. You'll recognise me by my one very colourful eye!!!

A forced rest this morning- which in my aching bruised condition is good- the power company informed us that the power would be turned off until 2.30, so once it comes back on it will be full steam ahead. I have more treats to make for the weekend- more about those later. I'm off to enjoy a coffee at one of my fav cafes in town Larder. TMDxx

i have decided that I do my best work when bruised, battered, suffering concussion and high on sugar!! My chocolate kept its temper and glossed exeedingly well, which meant so did I. All the biscuits kept their shape and didn't spread across the baking tray like jellies and the meringues that I hope to sell with pots of lemon curd, are snow white and peaky. All in all a madly productive day for someone in a 'delicate state'. I can truly say that people are going to love pomegranate creams dipped in chocolate, French Vanillas with hundreds and thousands and blue cheese and currant- i think they should have been sesame seed. But... Oh well -a knock on the head brings out the creative beast in one!!!!

After a "trip" over a fallen tree on my walk this morning I am now in the kitchen wearing a "turban" complete with ice pack to try and ease the cricket ball swelling on my head. If you are heading to the Daylesford Farmers Market this Saturday you may want to check that what is in your pack of bikkies is indeed what is written on the outside of the box!!! Who knows whats going to happen in the kitchen today.... but hey come on down to the market on Saturday and take your chance- you could be delightfully suprised!!! TMDxx

So organised this week that I have had time to experiment with another biscuit, the Snickerdoodle-you cant help wanting to cook a biscuit with a name like this. I have been wanting to make them for ages as everyone i speak to who has eaten them loves them-not sure of their origin although I believe the folks of New England claim them. They are cakey, oven baked "doughnuts" rolled in cinnamon sugar prior to baking and, they make the kitchen smell delicious. On tasting them, I feel I may have over-cooked them, but I will persist and am thinking that I will in fact next time just before popping them in the oven, sq**rt some jam into the middle of each one!! Why is it that I always have to mess with a recipe?
Happy baking TMDxx
