This week I took a trip to Sydney Road and my friend and I did our own "food safari" visiting the likes of the Mediterranean Wholesalers- a gigantic food store filled with so many of my favourites- huge jars of beautiful anchovies, plump Bariole olives, jars of wild baby onions and artichoke hearts glistening in oil, as well as the best looking fennel salami, soft finely sliced proscuitto and the biggest cacciatore sausage that I will need friends over for dinner to help me eat it, cooked slowly with Puy lentils. And.....over on one side of the store was what I had really come for, my Sicilian breakfast treat- strong rich espresso coffee and ricotta filled cannoli and doughnuts Italian style. Heaven.
Heading for the check-out the trolley was filled with delicacies and Sicilian wines that we found (another treasure).
Then it was down the road a little further to the A1 Bakery- a fabulous Lebanese bakery/cafe and although we didn't need to eat how could we resist fresh kibbeh and falafel and shanklish cheese pastries!!
If you love tea then you must visit Impala and Peacock- Melbourne's tea atelier. a lovely tea shop with an amazing chandelier and a dignified feeling.
But there's more- the lebanese sweet shop- oh lordy lordy. I goggled through the window until I could no longer resist, and was then plied with little tasters. So generous
Theres more so much more but I will elaborate in another post
