I will be trying this next season 🤩

Hey all👋
Just thought I’d jump on here to let you know I’m taking a break from the little farm stall.

It will be closed until next February when dragon fruit will be ready.

Although I’d love to pootle (to spend time in a slow, leisurely, and aimless way without any real purpose or urgency) I’ll be busy during my ‘break’ preparing for a really great year ahead, both with produce and education.

For those who still need to get their hands on Levi’s fabulous composted manure ($4/bag) send me a message and I’ll organise your order 😊👍🏼 He’s very excited about his little side hustle so keep the orders coming!

I love Spring for the beautiful sweet scented perfume of the Port W**e Magnolia which is gently carried on the warm breeze during the day, and the intoxicating scent of the all-time favourite, sweet peas, growing outside our bedroom window.

The warm daytime breezes seem to gently wrap its arms around you when outside, and the coolness of the evening air reminds us to enjoy the wonder of Spring before the harsh heat of summer creeps upon us. The veggie bed also seems to enjoy Spring as much as I do, with flowers everywhere! Even weeds are putting on a show.

We just need the bees to come back🐝😔 Unfortunately I’ve only seen a few so far. Nature is extremely resilient if we let it be. A little help of incorporating flowers in our gardens won’t go astray, and brings us so much joy 🥰

PS Happy Father’s Day ☕️ 🥐 🍔 🍻🍫

As you might know by now I love being outside in nature, surrounded by its wonder and beauty. It affects me deeply to see that my love of nature isn’t shared by everyone.

When something isn’t respected there is minimal or no regard for its wellbeing. This is can be seen clearly from my weekly bin routine, when I take our household rubbish bins to the road side for collection.

My habit is to walk along our property’s frontage and collect the rubbish thrown out of passing car windows, blown out of the back of utes or blown (from who know where) into the long grass which traps it until I can rescue it.

As you can see from this week’s haul, there is a random variety of waste that should not end up by the side of a road, particularly since we are blessed with a functioning waste collection system.

I ask myself “why!?!” do people do this? All I can conclude is that they just don’t care. This is why the education I do with a local kindergarten is so important to me. If we teach our children the wonder of the natural world, then they can travel the pathway of respecting it and hopefully, deeply care for it. When one understands the value of something, respect can follow.

With the Practical Ecoliteracy program, I hope to reveal the wonder of nature and essential connection, we as people, have with it. This looks like learning about composting, worm farming, growing food, flowers and native plants. Simple things, but powerful learning lessons. Our future depends upon how much our children are taught to care.

Thank you Bayview Kindergarten for the opportunity to do this important work with the children, our future…it also happens to be a lot of fun too 😅

This composted horse manure is available weekends at the stall. It’s only $4/bag! Levi, my 8 year old nephew, does a fantastic job of quality control when he fills each bag. He removes sticks and little pieces of string which find its way into the pile of manure.
If you are looking to increase the organic matter of your soil, to feed those hungry soil microorganisms, composted manure has a higher concentration of stable organic matter compared to fresh manure, so it is a great choice.
However, be mindful horse manure primarily feeds soil bacteria, so like the advice goes, ‘everything in moderation’, don’t over do it! Seek to diversify your organic inputs to enhance your soil ecology and overall health.
pH testing has the manure sitting in the 7-7.5 range (difficult to see in the photo) which is great for most plants.
All proceeds go directly to Levi for his hard work and effort. The bags are heavier than he is 😅 One day he’ll be bigger and strong enough to do it all himself 💪
I love that he is learning about sustainable business ideas through this process and who knows how this will influence him for his future career path 🤔
PS orders can be placed - just message me.

Any aspiring creatives out there 🤔👀

Help inspire our community garden logo.

The Fresh Water Community Garden group is beginning to work on a logo, and we’d love the
broader community to help shape the ideas behind it.

This is not a design competition, so you don’t need any artistic or design experience. We’re
looking for words, stories and ideas that can help guide a logo that feels connected to the
garden and our local community.

You might like to tell us:
• What does a community garden mean to you?
• What is the first thing you picture when you hear “community garden”?
• What three words would you use to describe a welcoming community garden?
• Is there a plant, animal, colour, garden object or feature you would include?
• What should the logo make people feel?
• Is there something unique about our local community that could inspire the logo?
• Is there anything you think should or should not be included?

You can leave a comment, send us a few words or share a quick sketch. It doesn’t need to be
polished. Every suggestion can help spark the final design.

We’ll bring the community’s suggestions together and use them as inspiration as we develop the logo.

If you choose to contribute words, drawings, sketches or other material, you confirm that it is
your own work and give the community garden group permission to use, combine, adapt and
develop it as part of the logo design process.
