Fresh feed, full bellies and the boys looking pretty content. 🌱🐏

After some welcome rain, the paddocks have certainly changed colour and the rams are making the most of it.

There’s something pretty satisfying about seeing good sheep out doing what they do best — turning grass into something productive.

For now, they’re enjoying the season… completely unaware there’s a fairly important date coming up in September. 🗓️

🐑 Not everything at Saber is about sheep! 🐄

Last week marked the start of calving season here at Saber, with these little black bundles starting to hit the ground. 🖤 There’s always something pretty special about seeing the first calves of the season arrive.

A busy time on the farm - lambs, rams, calves and everything in between!

Meet Steve 👋

Born and bred into sheep farming, Steve knew from an early age there was nowhere else he’d rather be.

He struck a deal with his mum to leave school after Year 10 but only if he completed a trade first. So he became a qualified plant mechanic, studied at Ag College, spent 12 months working in Antarctica, and joined the Australian Army Reserve at just 18.

More than 40 years later, he’s still serving as an Engineer Corps Construction Supervisor, while proudly continuing our family’s fourth-generation farming legacy alongside his wife and family here at Saber Sheep.

Steve believes farming is one of the most rewarding careers there is —turning sun, soil and water into food while caring for livestock, improving genetics and leaving the land in better condition for the next generation.

When he’s not in the paddock, the sheep yards or talking genetics… you’ll probably find him on his phone. 📱 If you’ve ever rung Steve, you’ll know there’s about a 90% chance he’s answering from a paddock somewhere!

Wouldn’t have it any other way. 🌾🐑

Standing around looking handsome… it’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it. 😎🐑

Lucky for us, these boys do a lot more than pose for the camera.

Our focus has always been on producing functional, easy care sheep with the structure, muscling and genetics to perform in commercial flocks.

Power. Performance. Practicality.

The future of your flock starts here.

See them for yourself at our 10th Annual On-Farm Ram Sale on 25th September 🗓️.

A few of the crew behind another day of lamb marking. 🐑

There’s something pretty special about days like these. Lamb marking isn’t just another job on the calenda it’s a chance to work side by side, share a few laughs, and pass on the knowledge that’s been built over many years.

From experienced hands to fresh enthusiasm, everyone plays their part. It’s these moments that remind us farming is about much more than livestock it’s about family, tradition, and working together.

Here’s to another season underway and making memories along the way.

See you on the 25th of September 🐑🗓️

Meet Rod — the OG farmer of Saber Sheep. 🐑🚜

Here he is bringing the ewes and lambs in for weaning, and at 90 this November, there’s still not much that keeps him away from the farm. He’s always around, always ready to lend a hand, and has a lifetime of farming knowledge that you simply can’t replace.

But don’t expect to always find him at home! Rod certainly doesn’t let age slow him down. He’s a bit of a social butterfly and loves visiting his family and friends wherever they may be. If he’s not out helping us with the sheep, he might just be on a plane heading overseas to support one of his grandchildren. ✈️🌏

Still farming. Still travelling. Still showing up for his family.

A real goer and an important part of the Saber Sheep story. 💙

A look back at last year’s Saber Sheep Ram Sale 🐑🔨

The pens were full, the rams were ready, and another great group of Saber Sheep genetics headed off to work in commercial flocks.

Now the countdown is on to do it all again in 2026.

This year’s team is coming together, and we’re looking forward to welcoming new and returning buyers back to Saber Sheep this September.

Save the date and stay tuned!
There’s plenty more to come as sale day gets closer. 🗓️

Double trouble or twice the potential? 🐑🐑

These two little faces are a reminder that every Saber Sheep ram starts somewhere.

From their first days on the ground, we’re watching them grow and develop as we work towards producing sound, productive genetics for commercial sheep producers.

For now though… their biggest responsibility is looking cute and staying out of trouble. 😂

🐾 Meet Magnum – the original Saber Sheep guardian.

Magnum was our very first Maremma, and it’s fair to say he’s the reason we fell in love with the breed.

Unlike working dogs that move sheep, Maremmas are born to live with the flock. From the day they’re introduced, they bond with the sheep and see them as their family. Their job is simple. Stay with the flock, watch over them day and night, and protect them from predators. 🦊

Whether it’s foxes or anything else that threatens our sheep, Magnum is always on duty! You’ll often find him quietly lying amongst the ewes or wandering through the paddock, keeping a watchful eye on everything around him.

He doesn’t ask for much, just a flock to protect and a paddock to patrol.

Thanks, Magnum, for looking after generations of Saber Sheep. ❤️🐑🐾
