Majestic, serene, perfect. It is hard to find words to accurately describe the art form of tea ceremony. On Sunday, eight lucky guests were teleported to ancient Japan and treated to Chadō or 'The Way of Tea', a zen ritual which has existed in its current form for more than 500 years. We were honoured and very fortunate to be visited by Sky Ishii of Tea ceremony Perth, and could not have had a more fitting host to deliver the experience. Dressed in kimono, Skye demonstrated traditional calligraphy for each arriving guest, hosted an information session on Chadō, and then performed the classical celebration of tea, serving whisked matcha, or usucha for all. Skye painted a one-off scroll, a rabbit, which was hung on the wall according to custom, and made rabbit (usagi) mochi for each guest (to assist in activating their thirst for tea!). It was a privilege to watch Skye perform her art, elevating the simple merging of tea and water into a celebration of Ichi-go, Ichi-e, a moment and meeting that will never be repeated. Thank you Skye Ishii. 🙏

The theme for Sunday's ceremony is Spring 🌸 and Rabbits 🐇. They may not be Australia's favourite animal, but the rabbit (usagi) is deeply embedded in Japanese culture, signifying luck, longevity and prosperity.

Monks and Warriors is honoured to be hosting a visit from Skye Ishii of Tea Ceremony Perth next Sunday September 20th at 1pm.

Skye will present a 60 minute intimate session for 8 guests showcasing Chadō, or 'The Way of Tea', a centuries-old Japanese zen ritual celebrating simplicity, harmony and the beauty of nature.

Growing up in Kyoto, Skye has a wealth of cultural experience including pottery calligraphy, ikebana and of course, serving tea in the traditional method.
