What a fabulous, exciting and nervewracking 48hrs I have had! Not only was I able to tick solo travel off my big girl pants list, I was able to spend 24 hours talking to people who love Feedlotting just as much as I do. I am so grateful to get through to the ALFA YLFA top 6, this journey has been nothing short of full of growth and memories.
what a great industry we work in! Thanks ALFA for all you do.

Near on 6 months no rain! This long summer , is effecting more than just the feed on the ground..
Cattle conditions upon feedlot entry are diminishing, added stresses on farm like lack of water, cattle are grazing on bare soil means they pick up more spores and are more susceptible to illness before arrival.
With the lack of hay around , and higher than usual prices , farmers are having to feed out pellets or substitute feeds ,which is expensive! Especially since cattle prices are so low at current.
For the love of farming, either do your rain dance or pray for rain...
It's getting a little bit scary..

Mooovin' some baby moos and their mummas to a new paddock... only 500m will take 5 minute.... NOT!
ON THE FEEDLOT
Even though it is one of the last things we like to happen in the feedlot, our heifers and cows are watched closely in the pens for any signs of calving or pregnancy ( as well as keeping an eye out for any sick cattle) .Our daily monitoring allows us to keep a close eye on our mummas to be, moving them to a paddock or yard to give birth, and if needed we can calmly and easily assist (midwife duties), and also ensure they recover from birth.

Beautiful first steps for the newest addition! Much to our surprise, this is sheepys second lamb.
Clancy and Isabella watched this little bundle be born. A memory they might quickly forget but I will cherish those little moments forever. Getting to show them life take its first breathe!
This ewe was a lamb we bottle raised from a week old, Clancy has seen her grow up and now have two lambs. I'm so blessed that I can share and educate my kids on the circle of life, in such a special way.
Can you believe it?! In 7.7 million square Km there is ONLY 400 accredited feedlots supply Grain Fed Beef to our local and worldwide consumers!
With Australia having a herd size of approximately 28.8 million, only 4% are in feedlots at one time!
What an amazing job our red meat industry workers provide to both us and our economy!

We are continually striving to ensure that our cattle are handled in a low stress manner.
So much so that even our "working" dog, Joy shares our same passion in low stress stock handling.
FYI Joy is more of a, let's just say, emotional support 'employee'....
