IN A NUTSHELL:
Tallis Wine is a family owned winery located in the rich rolling volcanic hills of Dookie, run alongside traditional farming enterprises. For over 25 years, single-vineyard varietals have been handmade in a converted stable by Richard Tallis and sold in their cellar door situated on the property. Recently the cellar door building has been leased to locals, evolving into a new busine

ss, ‘Rye at Tallis’. This much-loved Dookie destination has transformed into a wine bar and events space, showcasing Tallis wine alongside other local beverages and regional produce. To experience Tallis wine, visit ‘Rye at Tallis’ located hillside on the Tallis property (5 Major Plains Road Dookie) and restaurants, bars and bottle shops across the region. A NEW ERA FOR TALLIS CELLAR DOOR EXPLAINED:
Our cellar door, which opened 11 years ago, is evolving into a new business 'Rye at Tallis'. After much reflection, we have leased our unique cellar door building to a local team who love Tallis and our place in the region as much as we do. Tess and Hannah from Rye Studio, are the people behind the new experience and our cellar door building will soon evolve into a new business ‘Rye at Tallis’ . Rest assured Tallis Wine will continue, growing grapes and producing the wine you love. Richard will have more time to concentrate on his winemaking passion, producing interesting small-batch varietals. The Tallisman wine club will continue to give exclusive wine access and generous discounts and local outlets will still have access to Tallis Wine. Our beautiful location will still be here for you to visit as a wine bar and event space showcasing Tallis wine alongside other wonderful local beverages and food from our region. We will be working closely with the ‘Rye at Tallis’ team, supporting them in their new adventure and with their events experience, we hope they will host Tallisman member events in the future. WHEN DOES TALLIS CELLAR DOOR EVOLVE INTO RYE AT TALLIS'? Cellar door opened during the 2012 Shepparton Festival. 11 years on, with more than 70 employees and countless pours later, our last trading day as Tallis cellar door was Sunday 5th March. The venue will reopen as ‘Rye at Tallis’ in early May 2023, so stay tuned for details. We can’t wait to visit 'Rye at Tallis' as guests, enjoying a wonderful wine bar across the paddock in our own backyard. The future of this much-loved Dookie destination is in great hands. With much appreciation and thanks Richard & Alice Tallis

Winemaker's day off. This is our favourite thing to do to relax. Nothing like a picnic in the paddock, sausage in bread with homemade sauce and a glass of wine, watching the kangaroos bound by 🍷🍷🍷

We’ve just cracked open a bottle of 2017 Silent Showman Cabernet and it’s delicious. Sadly we only have 3 bottles left in our cellar so if you have some in yours, it’s well worth a sip. 🍷
Missed out on 2017 then our 2021 is also drinking really well ⭐️

Flashback to 2013 - Remembering the Yorta Yorta turtle geoglyph emerging in the Dookie dirt.

This impressive piece of landscape art (400m in diameter) was created for the Shepparton Festival in 2013 and again in 2019. The giant long neck turtle is an important totem of the local indigenous Yorta Yorta people and was ploughed into the paddock by Richard Tallis using the GPS on his tractor. The image was a collaboration between Yorta Yorta and local artist & Festival director John Head.

Looking like a crop circle it was a spectacular sight.

Last night we joined our friends at Rye at Tallis for a wine and cheese extravaganza - it was fabulous! David Herbert from Calendar Cheese guided our taste buds on a global adventure with 10 cheesy varieties and 4 local wine tastings. David’s knowledge was extensive and we were filled with information and really generous offerings of cheese 🧀 and 🍷

If you have FOMO and don’t want to miss their next event, make sure you join the Rye at Tallis mailing list [email protected] or follow them on socials.

Thanks Rye at Tallis, David Herbert & Calendar Cheese Company for an excellent evening ⭐️
