DUBBO PRIME SHEEP & LAMB MARKET REPORT 1.6.26

Lamb numbers were back with more rain falling in the supply area. The quality was good for a small yarding with plenty of trade weight lambs which were in demand from feeders and restcokers to put on crop. Heavy lambs were well supplied and there were reasonable numbers of extra heavy weights. Merino lambs were limited and what was supplied were mostly trade weights. Light lambs were limited. The market was stronger despite several of the usual buyers not operating.

Trade weighted lambs selling to feeder and restocking orders ranged from $240 to $298/head and similar weighted lambs to the trade ranged from $280 to $301/head up $15 to $20/head and averaged 1210c/kg. Heavy lambs 24 to 26kg were $11 stronger selling from $295 to $316/head or 1185c/kg and lambs 26 to 30kg sold from $298 to $347 with extra heavy weights reaching $400/head and averaged between 1100c to 1130c/kg cwt. The best of the Merinos reached $299/head averaging 1100c/kg and hoggets sold to $312/head.

Mutton numbers eased and the quality was mixed, prices continued to rise as processors competed for the limited supply. Prices lifted $15 on the plainer 1 and 2 score mutton to $40/head for the better covered 3 and 4 score heavy weights. Merino ewes reached $360 and heavy crossbred ewes $380/head. Most sold from 850c to 950c but there were sale exceeding 1000c/kg cwt.
