NT Logistics and Infrastructure has advised they will be undertaking works on the loading jetty at the Dundee Beach boat ramp.
The works are designed to increase traction in wet conditions and improve safety. Having reached out to the project manager, we understand that Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) grating will be installed over the walking surface of the jetty.
AFANT welcomes this important safety upgrade, which follows advocacy from our organisation, the NT Guided Fishing Industry Association and other users. While the award-winning ramp and groyne upgrades have significantly improved amenity at Dundee, following early user reports and our own site inspection, AFANT wrote to DLI raising concerns about the slipperiness of the jetty in May 2025 while the project was still underway.
We appreciate that periodic pressure cleaning has been carried out to clear settled sediment and algae from the brushed concrete finish, however, the installation of FRP gridding should be a much safer and more enduring solution.
The Department advises that works are anticipated to commence 12 August 2026 and be completed by 28 August - subject to tidal conditions. Ramp access will be maintained at all times throughout these works, with minimal interruptions to use
of the jetty.
