Sugargum Farm Sugargum Farm is home to two breeds of Stud sheep.....Babydolls and Rare Breed Elliottdales.

The three breeds of sheep you will find on our Farm are Olde English Babydoll Southdowns, Classic Cheviots and Elliottdale sheep. The Babydolls and Cheviots are not actually miniaturised sheep but the heritage or original type of today's modern Southdown and Cheviot, before their sizes were increased for greater meat production. The Elliottdale is Australia's carpet wool breed and is a specialty carpet wool sheep, developed in Tasmania, so the Australian carpet wool industry could manufacture carpets without having to rely on imported wool.

Never mind Matey, Royal Nanny, the Shepherdess to the rescue. 🩷 Do you see his worried, little face?🥹😆

There she is. Phew! I didn’t realise how heavy he is!! 😬😆

I wonder if he will have learned the lesson tomorrow morning? 🤔😂

I’m very happy to report after a couple of days of grieving for her lost lamb, Toozie is almost back to her normal self today. It was nice to see her come to the gate as she normally does.

It’s so sad as she is such a lovely girl and seems desperate to be a Mum again. Sadly, some things are just not meant to be. 😢

At least she’s a little better, a lot brighter and will hopefully be okay. 🤞🩷

What a heartbreaking morning! 💔

Just when you think you’ve got through lambing relatively unscathed, with no losses - BOOM! 😭

I went out this morning and noticed one of the Elliotts sitting by herself. There are a few Golden Oldies in that paddock, so the warning bells started to ring. As I got closer I realised it was Toozie. You remember Tooz, who had the really bad Black Mastitis last year. Yep, that one. The one we just managed to pull through with the help of Dr Kate!🙄 She looked bright enough, but as I got closer, I noticed some white fluff next to her. OMGosh, it was a lamb!! But sadly, it had passed. An absolutely perfect little ram lamb. She had cleaned him and was clearly being a good Mum, but had failed to realise the reason we didn’t breed her is she has very little udder left, so no milk.😢

I did not expect her to be pregnant as she has not escaped her paddock and Bunyip did not escape his. He has bred her through a tight seven strand wire fence. No, I wasn’t expecting it. 🤦‍♀️ Had I known I could have saved her lamb, but she has shown no signs of being pregnant. There is some nice grass around, so they are all a bit chunky.

She has been grieving all morning but I have now moved the lamb and she has had a good feed, so hopefully she will be okay. As soon as Geoff gets home we will be checking the other ewes who were in the same paddock. I would rather be prepared than have this kind of shock. 😭🩵

The moral of the story is stranded wire fencing is not enough to stop a willing ewe and an able ram! 🥴😭

I was fortunate enough to find Callie posing beautifully with Butch Cassidy and Sundance under one of our Gum trees. Just PERFECT!

Remember when Bilbo Baggins had his massive road trip all the way across the country to Tanjar Babydoll Sheep in Western Australia?

Well, he is all grown up now and these are his first babies - a little ewe and ram lamb. 🩷🩵 Look at those Babydoll smiles. ❤️😁 Apparently they’re pretty happy to have joined their friends at Tanjar. 😊

Congratulations to our new Elliottdale Studs, THOF Ranch and Leondras, who have successfully made it through their first Elliott lambing, adding six new lambs to the Australian Elliottdale flock.

Mag and Lisa from THOF have a little ewe lamb and a ram lamb (who I swear is a Super Hero - check out the first photo!) 😂🩵

Sandra and Leon have two sets of twins - one set of girls and one set of boys. Sandra has found herself with a Poddy, as Mum decided to share the love with her, gifting her a baby!! Hmmm. Apparently, one is enough!🥴 So Sandra is now an Elliott Mum. I know that feeling well! 😂🩵🩷

Great work everyone! It’s so awesome to see. I just wish Carl was here to see his beloved flock expanding. ❤️😍❤️
