About Our Eggs
Our chooks are all Heritage Breed Wyandottes and Silkies or a cross of these called Wylkies (or sometimes Satin Silkies). Of course, the Wyandottes are pretty naughty and are always up to something when they are not busy laying beautiful eggs or going broody. They are experts at hiding eggs for a while, disappearing and then suddenly reappearing three weeks later with a heap of kid
s. Our Silkies are very chatty and love to sit in your lap for a pat and a sleep. They lay perfectly shaped shiny, small white eggs that are perfectly suited for children of all ages to have that tailor sized boiled egg. We don't use growth hormones, chemicals to make the yolks look more yellow or any nasty stuff like that. Everything is kept as natural as possible. The hens have a mansion to live in with heaps of room for doing chook stuff and getting out of the sun, rain or wind. “La Masion Du Poulet” is situated in a private orchard with lots of shade, plenty of grass and a few windfall fruit to taste test. They have access to about four acres of pasture and trees during the day and we do our best to keep them safe at night. The only time they are penned is for quarantine purposes or to keep mum and her chicks safe. Oh, some serial offenders are gaoled in the “Book Depository” for a couple of days of rest and relaxation for being broody too much - nothing too serious, just plenty to eat and drink, but no nests or eggs to tempt them back to their addiction. Their foraged food is supplemented with vegetarian feed sourced wherever possible from Tasmanian manufacturers and suppliers. As this feed does not contain any meat products, the chooks aren't breathing a heap of dust and it doesn't effect the health of our goats if they happen to steal any. Our eggs are produced and packed in accordance with our Food Safety Management Statement that has been approved by the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water & Environment and Biosecurity Tasmania. All our eggs are stamped with our unique code to reflect this and our dedication to producing the best eggs we can. We are sure that you can taste the difference. Let us know what you think.
