⚑️ Orchard Update ⚑️

The Mega Mandys are coming along beautifully this season πŸ’ͺ🍊 Great size, great colour, and our growers are telling us this will be the best crop yet. After last year's popularity drove serious investment into the variety, the results are already showing on the trees.

Bigger. Sweeter. More Wickedly Healthy than ever. πŸ§›β€β™‚οΈ

Mega Mandys hit stores late June / early July. Keep your eyes peeled and your fruit bowl ready. πŸ‘€

This is the soil that grows Dracula Citrus. 🩸🍊

This is a handful of the Riverina and the heartland of Australian citrus. Ancient. Iron-rich. Unmistakably red. The same iron oxide that turns a nail to rust has been slowly accumulating in this soil for millions of years. Long before anyone thought to plant a citrus tree in it.

South Africa has red soil. Chile has it. Peru has it too.

But what they don't have is the cold Riverina nights that trigger the deep red colour in our blood oranges and the pink blush in our Cara Caras. The diurnal temperature swings that build sweetness and intensity in every variety we grow. The biosecurity record that keeps Australian citrus clean when other industries are fighting disease. Or growers like ours who have spent decades perfecting conditions for the most demanding fruit on earth.

Same dirt. Completely different story. πŸ§›β€β™‚οΈπŸ–€

On Monday we showed you how Vito monitors the moisture reaching his trees. Today it gets even more interesting. 🍊

Once the water side of things is under control, the next job is keeping a close eye on the fruit itself (and yes, that means literally measuring it). Size matters when it comes to premium citrus, and our farmers don't leave anything to chance.

This is the part of farming most people never see. The obsessive attention to detail that happens long before the fruit hits the shelf. Australian citrus farming is more science than most people realise. We think it deserves a bit more of the spotlight.

Anyone else out there obsessed with their citrus trees? πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ

While Australia is famously called 'the sunburnt country,' that reputation often brings the challenge of drought. πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί

For our citrus farmers, closely monitoring the moisture levels reaching their trees is essential, particularly during the dry season. In this short, Vito explains some of the gizmos and gadgets he uses on the orchard to help him monitor his water usage and the demands of the trees. Fascinating stuff.

This is the opposite of what our team is currently doing. No time to relax when the citrus season is coming. At least our fruit mascots get to relax a bit before the season starts 😜

Our Mega Mandys are literally an enormous show stopper. It's the kind of fruit people discover, photograph, and tell their friends about. The only thing standing between most people and their first Mega Mandy is the moment they pick one up. If we're not in your store then we should be.

Here are some things to consider about this variety:

πŸ‘‰ A single 365g Mega Mandy delivers approximately 97mg of Vitamin C.
To put that in context, the Australian recommended daily intake for adults is 45mg. That's more than double the daily requirement in one piece of fruit before you've even finished peeling it.

πŸ‘‰ A single 365g Mega Mandy delivers approximately 97mg of Vitamin C.
Beyond the Vitamin C headline: dietary fibre for digestive health, potassium for cardiovascular function, folate (B9) for cell repair, and natural flavonoids with well-documented anti-inflammatory properties.

πŸ‘‰ All of the above for less than 9% of the average adult's recommended daily calorie intake.

Get the word out. If you can't find us in your local fresh fruit or grocery store then ask the store to get in touch with us so we can be in your area!
