Who’s excited for dahlia season?

We definitely are.

We’ve planted about a quarter of our dahlia tubers so far, with another round going in this weekend and the rest going in throughout November.

There’s a lot of planting, staking, netting, nurturing and probably a fair bit of swearing (I do have a mouth like a trucker) 😂before those first blooms arrive.

And here’s something to remember. You won’t find locally grown dahlias in the big chain supermarkets.

So when dahlia season arrives, seek out your local flower grower and buy Australian grown.

That’s a wrap on the stocks for another year.

I have a serious love/hate relationship with these beauties.

They are bloody hard work in our climate and every year I swear, “Never again”

Then they bloom and I fall completely back in love. The fragrance, the ruffles, the long stems.

So goodbye stocks. See you next year because let’s be honest, I’ll probably do it all again. 😂

If it’s not in season here it’s probably imported

Seasonal flowers are flowers that are naturally grown and harvested in their particular season & climate. They come and go throughout the year, giving us something different to look forward to with every season.

This stunning Stock quartet (can you believe this is just one stem?) is a winter flower, as are tulips, for example.

So, if you find these flowers being sold in the middle of summer, chances are they’ve been imported.

This is why it’s so important to ask where your flowers are from.

Imported flowers can travel thousands of kilometres before they reach you not to mention what they’ve been sprayed with so they can make the distance.

Meanwhile, seasonal flowers grown here are harvested at their natural peak, right when they’re meant to be flowering. Giving you fresher & longer lasting blooms.

And honestly, that’s what makes seasonal flowers so special. You have to wait for them.
