Part of our regenerative farming and carbon sequestration work comes through multi species cover crops. It may look like a wild mix, or even just an unmowed paddock, but every plant has a very important role on our farm.
The diversity of the plants, including sunflowers and deep rooted chicory are doing big work behind the scenes.
Healing the soil e.g the tap roots of the chicory break up hard soil, open channels for air and water, and then the tap root decomposes in the soil creating a microbial feeding frenzy, using the roots carbon as an energy source 👏👏👏
These fast growing plants pull carbon dioxide out of the air and lock it safely down deep into the ground where it belongs. Naturally fighting climate change one plant at a time 👏👏👏
Then at the precise "sweet spot" the cows are invited to a fine dining experience 😄. Just as the plants finish their main growth stage the crop is packed with peak nutrition and flavour and the grazing cows trigger the deep roots to break down under ground. 👏👏👏
Our role on the farm is to support nature to work its wonders. This is the foundation for delivering delicious and nutritious eggs and food through Pasta'bah

Wednesday and Thursdays are moving days here on the farm. Every week rain, wind, hail or as luck would have it today ... shine 😁🌼🌞 👏👏👏
Our lovely egg laying ladies are moved to a new home with everything one could want ... fresh pick, new bugs, cow and horse poo to scratch through.
This does wonders for them, for our egg and Pasta'bah customers, and for our pastures that thrive under the delivery of their nitrogen rich fertiliser (poo). The of our hens and cattle is building life back into our soil. Healthy soils build healthy pastures, healthy pastures deliver nutritious feed, nutritious feed creates nutritious eggs 🥚 and the cycle continues ... week in week out, we building a healthier farm.

A big shout out to our outstanding team who show up to the farm, La Cucina and Pasta'bah each day with a passion for the land, animals, our food, each other and the produce and products we deliver to our ever loyal and supportive customers ❤️ The support of our customers, our community and our team allow us to fulfil our passions of restoring the land and ecosystems on our farm and bringing to market the most delicious and nutritious food ... from Pasture to Pasta.
Yesterday we attended the Tweed Business Awards, thankyou to the organisers and sponsors, and greatfully accepted awards for Excellence in Agriculture and Primary Industries and Excellence in Sustainability for the farm and Excellence in Manufacturing and Highly Commended Small Business for The Pasta'bah by Woodland Valley Farm. 🥂

Our multi-species cover crops accelerate soil regeneration by mimicking natural ecosystems. We combine plants like grasses, legumes, and brassicas, combined with the rotational grazing of our hens and cattle to SUPERcharge soil health through varying root depths, diversified microbial feeding, and balanced nutrient cycling.
From the hens perspective it's just SUPER yummy 🐔

🥚 The Great Uncrackable Egg… solved 😂

To whoever brought this mystery egg back last week claiming it was uncrackable — thank you for the entertainment.

We put it to the test… rolled it straight over to Rob at Nomadic Kitchen (because let’s be honest, the man cracks about 100 eggs a market morning 🍳).

And well…
CRACK 💥

Turns out Rob is stronger than we thought — or maybe the egg just knew who it was dealing with 😆

Yesterday, they’d never seen grass.
Today, it’s a full sensory experience… curious pecks, wobbly steps, and a whole lot of “what is this?!”

Safe to say, the girls are settling in just fine. From pasture to pasta starts right here!
