We are Dale and Karen Frank living a great life here in Flowerdale Tasmania, formally from Ballina NSW. We moved to Tasmania in 2017 but after spending a weeks holiday in this beautiful state, we went back home - packed up and moved here within eight months. I have always loved baking and spent the best part of my working life in commercial kitchens then training to become a ‘mature aged’ chef att
ending school with young and enthusiastic kids straight out of school. These days we both work our other jobs at North West Regional Hospital in Burnie. But the need to feed my love of baking has bought what we do now as a side hustle and Flowerdale Caramel Apples was born! My Cheesecakes have always been a thing and when I purchased the food trailer I thought about a lot of possibilities but I wanted to do something no one else was doing so I started looking at baking cheesecakes with a difference ,then one day I came across Cheesecakes on a Stick, I baked so many practise ones- set up the food trailer in the front yard and had the neighbours over and had a trial run- I needed to get it right!! Also, I had been experimenting with Caramel Apples for some time since seeing them in the States many years ago, now I believe I have the caramel just right, its homemade from scratch, just the right amount of chewy then rolled in peanuts and together with the tartness of the granny smith apple its a winner, I intend to try other toppings in the future, its such a small food trailer though so I have to learn to be content with just having a few items but inside my head I want to do everything!! And then the bananas, and who doesn’t love a good choc coated banana? We love all things 70’s so the Kombi van is apart of our ‘act’, we originally wanted to use her to tow the food trailer but it depends on where we go (and how many hills there are!)she’s an old girl and we want to look after her, lastly our music, its all 70s, the best era for music..well IMHO :)
My husband Dale is very supportive and I wouldn’t have been able to get this show on the road with out him, he gets us from point A to B and everything in-between and has the patience of a saint, he taught me to drive the kombi, he needed patience! I always finish my posts off by saying a few important things to remember. Cheesecake on a Stick - Caramel Apples - Choc Coated Bananas. Kombi - Cute Food Trailer - 70s Music.
