It’s almost that time of year again!
In the next month we’ll welcome our next group of pure Swiss Valais and F2 Valais lambs, all lovingly raised here on the property by their doting mamas.

I’ve dug out this clip of Flapjack giving birth to our beautiful F2 wether, Pancake, along with some basic information on labour.

I’ve been very heavy on sheep content recently due to my self imposed chicken hatching ban until I have a better coop set up to appropriately care for larger numbers of birds.
However, I did recently make an exception to hopefully obtain some generics from one of my favourite roosters who was taken by a bird of prey 😭

To my great surprise I seem to have ended up with some barred/cuckoo silkie chicks!
I’m super interested to see how these grow out and if I can sort my coops out properly hopefully there will be a lot more chicken content this coming spring 💕

I’ve gone full special interest with hand spinning wool at the moment with the little drop spindle I borrowed from my neighbour (thank you).
Fun part being I only wanted to borrow the spindle in case I hated it - next minute, OBSESSED.
Here’s a little comparison of my first and second attempts.

I THINK I’m currently spinning some of Waffle’s (F2 Valais) wool. It will be interesting to compare to Sugar’s (full blood Valais) fleece.

As I get better (and potentially graduate to a spinning wheel) I think it could be fun in the future to offer some small batch Valais rovings and yarn.

I will provide an update once I ply and wash my completed yarn - then to decide whether I will dye it!
