Wildlife Wednesday 🐂 Cobbold Cows. Built for the north! Brahman cattle are incredibly well adapted to the hot, dry conditions of northern Australia. One of their secret weapons? Brahmans have around 1.5 to 2 times more sweat glands per square centimetre than European cattle breeds, helping them regulate their body temperature in tropical heat.

Their natural heat tolerance, tick resistance and ability to thrive in tough conditions helped transform the northern Australian beef industry, and today Brahman genetics influence around 50% of Australia’s beef herd.

You’ll spot plenty of these hardy characters when travelling through the Etheridge Shire and at Cobbold Village.

🦔 WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY | Short-beaked Echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus). These guys are recognised as Australia’s most geographically widespread native mammal, living everywhere from rainforests and savannahs to snowy peaks. They are also regularly spotted around Cobbold Village and the camping areas - have you seen them here?

Fun fact: A single short-beaked echidna can excavate up to 204 cubic metres of dirt every year. That equates to roughly seven tonnes of soil, or around eight trailer loads, per animal!

We’re looking for an experienced General Manager to lead our Iconic Outback Tourism Group, which includes Cobbold Gorge Tours & Village, Visit Forsayth & Goldfields Hotel and Undara Lava Tube Tours.

Based at Cobbold Gorge Village, this is no ordinary resort role. You’ll lead a close-knit team, oversee a diverse mix of tourism and hospitality operations, and work alongside the owners to help shape the future of three iconic Outback Queensland destinations.
We’re looking for a strategic thinker, practical problem solver and hands-on leader who brings Passion, Purpose and Pride to everything they do.

Hospitality All-Rounders
Cobbold Gorge and Cobbold Village is a multi-award-winning Outback Queensland destination. Family owned and operated, we’re located on a working cattle station in the Etheridge Shire, just six hours from Cairns or Townsville. We love what we do and are looking for awesome people to join our team, from now through to early November.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Amazing Customer Service Required
• Support Team Members in all areas as required
• Pitch in and assist with general duties around Cobbold Village
• Contribute to providing our guests with outstanding customer service
• Great team players to join our amazing happy team
• Experience in Hospitality / Bistro / Barista / highly favoured.
• Immediate Start, working through to early November.
• Suit couple or single.
• Fluent English required (first language preferred)
• Must have QLD RSA and Food Safety
• Qualifies for 88 days
• Free powered site or single accommodation available. Provide own meals.
• Pets allowed in own accommodation.

Wildlife Wednesday. Meet the Scarlet Percher (Diplacodes haematodes), a small dragonfly that knows how to stand out. Mature males are a brilliant scarlet red. Females look completely different, with sandy yellow and pale brown tones marked by darker patterns along the abdomen. Scarlet Percher's love hot, sunny freshwater environments and are often seen at Cobbold Gorge, basking in the sun on warm rocks and sand.
