A purple cauliflower and small cabbage are both ready to harvest in my garden. Spring is bursting with colour and leafy produce, the Asian greens are now flowering, the spent broccoli is also flowering, giving food for the visiting bee's and other insects. The garden is alive with lots of bird and insect activity. All beneficial to the garden.

Foster and district townships have food growing in the streets now it's time our local council encouraged residents to grow food on their nature strips, Canberra can do it and so can we.

Minister says growing food on nature strips is good for environment and gives people a better connection with food.

Some of the beautiful fragrant quinces have been made into quince jelly and quince paste. Both of these preserves have the distinct flavour of quinces which goes extremely well with blue cheese, meat dishes, vegetable burgers or scones with cream. Try some when you next come along to the Prom Country Farmers Market as I'll have them both for sale. If you are driving past Walkerville, drop by my little street stall and purchase them over this weekend.

Today I harvested my little quince tree and got 60 quinces, one of these beautiful fragrant fruits was 600g. So today I'm making quince conserve. Next week I'll have to make the quince paste. I have also harvested figs which have been made into jam. Then all those tomatoes that have been waiting to be preserved have been cooked into passatta. It's one of those days to spend in the kitchen getting through the abundance that is coming in from the garden.

I'll have veggies, some plants and preserves for sale out the front of my place over the weekend, so if your keen on getting one of those great looking zucchini's, then pop over and purchase one. I've been making zucchini pickles and zucchini relish if anyone is interested. Of course I'll be at the Prom Country Farmers Market on Saturday 19th March if you would like to get my preserves.

It's the Prom Country Farmers Market this Saturday in Foster, it will be a perfect day to come along and shop for something locally produced or grown. I'll be there with my fruit cakes, Anzac's and preserves. Those lovely zucchini's I've been grown will be made into pickles or I'll even have some to sell. Hope to see you all there.

Edible water plants in my pond. The arrow leafed plant on the left is duck potato, with water chestnuts just out of sight behind the duck potato. The plant in front is water parsley and Vietnamese mint just behind. I have lots of other edible water plants in the pond and hundreds of tadpoles which are just beginning to migrate from the pond into the garden. It's a beautiful place to sit and relax.

How beautiful is zucchini flowers, perfect for picking and stuffing then frying. I just love the look of them. This flower is the female flower because it has a small embryo zucchini attached to the flower, now all it needs is a busy bee to fertilize the flower after it has visited the male flower or I could hand fertilize this. Here's hoping there is enough bees in my garden to do this for me. Yes, and I'll have some zucchini's to sell at the market and possibly some zucchini cake and dips too. Come and check it out.

This is a Salty Ice Plant growing abundantly in my garden at the moment. It's edible and looks like a succulent with tiny icicle like droplets on the underside of the leaf. I harvest this and add to my salads, it tastes salty and very fleshy but gives the salad a great texture.

It's the Prom Country Farmers Market this Saturday, please come along and attend the market and purchase some of the food, plants etc that this area produces. The market is held in Foster beside the Hall on the grassy area. This Saturday looks to be a perfect day to hang out at the market and have a cuppa and eat a biscuit or apple strudel. I'll be there with my Anzac Biscuits, pickled zucchini, salad dressing and some dips. Pop over and have a chat about anything food both growing and cooking.
