Hello friends 🤍
We wanted to acknowledge our quiet patch here.

We’ve taken some time offline while processing a shift in our family dynamics following a health diagnosis. For a while, we needed to simplify life and focus on our family unit.

While we’ve been quieter online, farm life hasn’t slowed. We’ll share some of the fun we’ve been having on the farm with you soon!

We’re going to start easing back online slowly, so watch this space. 🤍

Can you see the peanut shaped cell sticking out of this honey comb?

We were extracting honey last night and found this empty queen cell in a box which the queen should not have had access to. It’s a mystery!

Queen cells are built by worker bees for the queen to lay a new egg in, and hopefully grow a replacement queen bee. Usually the worker bees would build these cells in ‘brood’ boxes where the queen hangs out instead of in honey boxes which the queen are excluded from.

So did the worker bees get confused and build the cell in the wrong place? Or was the queen a Houdini and sneaking through the Queen excluder?

Don’t these bees know it’s not summer!? We have had so many warm days this winter, the bees are on to an unseasonable flow of white and grey box.

Guess we’ll have to keep beekeeping during the off season this year!
