Ricky has been hanging with the show team for a few weeks and today he really joined in - how tiny he is. While the others got show pellets he got a little pile of grass to nibble on. Vincent is still with the other bulls and Winter has pink eye so may not make the next show. In the meantime Wallace is doing really well.

X08 is a really interesting colour and so fluffy, he is going to be a handsome lad. Meantime Ricky is enjoying a spot of hay in bed.

Last year Tillys first calf arrived in the middle of the night and was stillborn. We were lucky this year she chose the afternoon and the baby was healthy. She is finally getting to be a Mum. Of course it was another boy - 8 for 8 this year, truly the year of XMen (Hereford stud letter is X this year). If he and Ricky get along we might have to call him Tupac.

A Hereford Bull featured on Clarkson Farm. He is the same size as our Bulls, showing they are true to the origins of the breed. It is impressive when you think about the giants they have become.

Ricky is doing so well and walking a little further each day. Usually he is following a bottle but today we walked with just the halter. So much easier than training the weaners!

Now that Ricky is stronger he needs to learn to cow, so its back into the yards with the twins for company. I feel like a Mum leaving her kid at school for the first time.

In his first month of life Ricky Baker has been smeared with all sorts of goop in the hope his Mum and then potential foster Mum would take to him. He also soiled himself alot during the 2 weeks he couldn't stand by himself so safe to say he needed a bath. The blow dry didn't go down so well but he seemed to enjoy the rest of the attention. Have bought him a sheep halter, he needs to grow into it bless him.

Meals on wheels has had an upgrade to feed out the cotton seed. Calves are not allowed to have it under 4 months old and as X03 is proving, he just can't reach in there. The others soon tucked in.

And just like that Ricky has decided, with the right motivation (bottle), he can stand up all by himself. Been a worrying couple of weeks but I finally feel like he's on the mend. Won't be untying the apron strings just yet but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
