A very informative post from a dedicated Hereford breeder.https://www.facebook.com/share/1cz8UPc8DN/
Many people are surprised to learn that the original Herefords were much smaller than many of today's cattle. Over time, breeders selected for increased frame size and growth, creating the larger modern Hereford we commonly see today.
❤️ Mini Hereford ✅ Height: Under 120 cm (47 inches) at maturity under Australian Mini Hereford standards for a cow ✅ Mature Cow Weight: 350-500 kg ✅ Mature Bull Weight: 500-700 kg - Offering many of the practical benefits that made the original Hereford so popular, Mini Herefords are quiet, efficient, easy to handle and well suited to smaller acreages and sustainable farming systems.
🌱 Traditional (Classic) Hereford ✅ Height: Approximately 120-130 cm (47-51 inches) at the hip ✅ Mature Cow Weight: 500-650 kg ✅ Mature Bull Weight: 750-850 kg - Known for being efficient grazers, fertile, easy-doing and capable of producing quality beef from pasture-based systems.
🐂 Modern Hereford ✅ Height: Approximately 135-150 cm (53-59 inches) at the hip ✅ Mature Cow Weight: 650-800+ kg ✅ Mature Bull Weight: 1,000-1,200+ kg - Bred for greater growth rates, larger carcasses and increased production, resulting in taller and heavier cattle.
Whether it's our Classic Herefords or our Mini Herefords, we value animals that are productive, easy to work with, efficient on grass and a pleasure to have in the paddock.
Both sizes offer something unique, and that's why we're passionate about preserving and promoting these wonderful cattle.
