Nothing like some afternoon mowing in our Avo blocks! Definitely starting to get dry 🥑

Something bit different here but when we are not spraying, slashing or picking avocados we get to do these odd fun jobs. Nice little transformation shown here gone with the old pine trees and in with the new plants along with an automatic watering system. Will be back to the ag content next week!

It’s that time of the year again!! With the custard apple crop of 2026 well and truly under way, the team at illalangi farms have been working hard to insure that the crop is growing well and being protected from any diseases and insects. With a large storm coming through back in November 25 the trees have managed to regain health and put on a decent looking crop for this season. Keep an eye for harvest time.

Illalangi Farms was excited to welcome the University of Queensland Skills program out to the Gatton farm today. Subject of focus was agricultural accounting, economics and finance. Showing students examples of profit and loss statements as well as values of equipment and structures. These diligent students from UQ are a month out from completing the diploma of agriculture and business management.

Perfect time of the year to be spreading our chicken poo compost throughout the farm. This will help our soil structure, organic matter and overall soil health as well as give our orchard the boost it needs going into the growing season of 2026!!

illalangi farms was proud to help assist The Digihort team from UQ along with Dr Liqi Han who has given an explanation on what he conducted and does with this information and data. His explanation is below. The DigiHort team based at the University of Queensland have developed a digital-twin-based technology (powered by high performance computing and artificial intelligence) for optimisation of orchard/vineyard designs and management practices. The technology has two components: LIGHT and SPRAY.
The DigiHort-SPRAY component simulates billions of droplets, each with its own trajectory, to evaluate the performance of various sprayers, configurations, and operating parameters. It supports analysis across different spray purposes (e.g., fungicides, insecticides, and other protectants), crop types, planting systems, and phenological stages—enabling precise, crop- and context-specific optimisation of spray applications. This helps growers select the appropriate equipment, fine-tune its configuration, and apply it effectively to deliver the right amount of agrichemicals to the right parts of the canopy—minimising both yield loss and chemical usage.
The DigiHort technology has been validated through collaborations with research teams from the Queensland and Victoria state governments, and is currently being applied in several projects funded by horticultural industries across Australia and New Zealand.

At the moment on the farm we are trimming custard apple trees. This is a yearly task which has to be done as these trees grow very vigorously. The GreenTec saw seen on the excavator allows us to manage our trees heath and structure while staying efficient and effective. Trimming is crucial at this time of year as these trees are gearing up for the 2026 season!!
