Our Mates' Farm

Our Mates' Farm lylequonny country | Matt & Cor grow certified organic apples, beef & lamb, & free range pork We feed them apples from the orchard throughout the year.

At Our Mates’ Farm we grow our apples organically, with minimal inputs, and store them with no chemical inputs used to extend their storage life. We rotationally graze our organic cattle and sheep through the pasture and orchard on the property, which produces healthy soil, and by extension, healthy grass. We free range our rare-breed Wessex Saddleback and Large Black pigs, rotating them through p

addocks to allow the grass to recover. We are passionate about everything we produce, and enjoy showing people our farming system. We want to show you that there is a better way to buy food, straight from the farm, where you know exactly how it is grown. We believe that complete transparency should be the cornerstone of our food system. We are certified organic by Southern Cross Certified (CID00857). Phone 0478061881 for orders or more information.

💚We’re sad to say goodbye to all the wonderful customers who have been a part of the community. Thank you for supporting all of us farmers, producers and makers these past few years.

A massive shoutout to the herculean efforts of our beloved who has been the rock on which we all depended on - logistics /communications / marketing / relationships - you name it, she did it all!

Thank you to the TPC board (past and present, always unpaid yet fully committed to the cause). Big love to all the hub volunteers who have made each and every cycle happen in all the locations across Tassie.

We have been privileged to share our love of apples to the rest of our Apple Isle inhabitants. We hope you have tried varieties you’ve never seen elsewhere, and found your fave (ours remains the Mutsu!). We hope you have tasted each and every variety of apple pressed into our single varietal juices, and have enjoy it on ice, with soda water, as a sorbet, or with gin!

For those of you in the south, we continue to supply Hobart and Kingston with our apples and juice, Sandy Bay has our juice. For those in the mid North, Farm and stock our juice.

We will look at other northern options in the future, perhaps a Launnie stockist, and a trial at markets could be on the cards.🤞 As you know, freight & logistics can be a barrier for small producers (which is where TasProduceCo stepped up!). So we need to do our research, get organised, and plan for next season. Stay tuned, follow us on Instagram & Facebook, we will do our best!

Thank you for everything TPC peeps!

🤞🤞🤞

Our Matt and Fat Pig Farm’s Matthew will be attending for STAMP. Jen Sprout Tasmania & Matt have been deep in convo this week about how best to represent small meat producers’ needs & values at this table, and to ensure we get action, not just talkfest.

(If anyone has ever watched ABC’s Utopia, you’ll know what we mean… To paraphrase: “Do you want to do something, or seen to be doing something?”)

📢 Advocacy Update! 📢

Our advocacy work continues this month, with meat processing, leafy veg standards, and egg accreditation all on our radar. 🌱🥚🥩

But front of mind this week is the meat processing situation. With Cradoc Enterprises (Skyview Processing) recently entering voluntary administration, the situation is dire for our Southern producers. We know that this is indicative of the tenuous situation state wide for those farmers needing to access service kill provision.🚨

Tomorrow, we’re heading into a meeting with a broad range of state government officials alongside STAMP & TasFarmers to make our voices heard, your voices heard — and to collaborate on this complex but vital part of our local food system. We’re feeling optimistic that solutions are on the horizon. With bipartisan support from Jane Howlett and opposition leader Dean Winter MP we hope to secure improved access to processing services for small-scale farmers.

🤞 Wish us luck! 🤞
