🌱🐔 Growing for the Chooks 🐔🌱
One of my favourite things about having a vegetable garden isn't just feeding the family—it's growing food specifically for the chooks!
There's something so satisfying about harvesting armfuls of leafy greens and herbs and watching the girls come running. Today they were enjoying fresh garden greens, and not a scrap was left behind! 💚
Many herbs aren't just tasty treats either. They can be a great addition to a healthy flock and may help support overall wellbeing and egg production.
Some of our favourite herbs to grow for the chooks include: 🌿 Parsley 🌿 Oregano 🌿 Thyme 🌿 Mint 🌿 Sage 🌿 Comfrey 🌿 Calendula 🌿 Lemon balm
And of course, leafy greens like silverbeet, kale, spinach, and Asian greens are always a hit.
The best part? The garden feeds the chickens, the chickens help fertilise the garden, and around it goes. It's one of the many things I love about farm life and creating a more sustainable system here at Breelong Valley.
