🔥 CREAMY HARISSA BUTTER BEANS WITH CRISPY HALLOUMI & HOT HONEY 🔥
Creamy, smoky, tangy and irresistibly crunchy—this is the kind of meal that makes everyone reach for seconds.
Golden crumbed halloumi sits over creamy harissa butter beans, finished with fresh herbs, quick-pickled onion and a generous drizzle of our Australian Black Lime Hot Honey. The sweet heat and deep citrus flavour bring the whole dish together beautifully.
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS
For the beans:
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 brown onion, finely diced
• 3 garlic cloves, crushed
• 2 tbsp rose harissa paste
• 2 × 400g tins butter beans, drained
• 150g Greek yoghurt
• 2 tbsp hot water
• 1 tbsp lemon juice
• Salt and pepper
For the crispy halloumi:
• 250g halloumi
• 2 tbsp cornflour
• 1 egg, beaten
• 1 cup panko breadcrumbs—or gluten-free breadcrumbs
• Olive oil for frying
For the quick-pickled onion:
• 1 red onion, very thinly sliced
• ½ cup white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
• 1 tbsp caster sugar
• ½ tsp Australian Black Lime Pepper—optional, but delicious
TO FINISH
• Australian Black Lime Hot Honey
• Fresh mint
• Dill, parsley or coriander
• Quick-pickled onion
• A little extra harissa mixed with olive oil
METHOD
1. Combine the pickled-onion ingredients and set aside.
2. Cook the brown onion gently until soft and lightly caramelised. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
3. Add the butter beans and harissa paste. Cook for 2–3 minutes, until warmed through.
4. Whisk together the Greek yoghurt, hot water and lemon juice until smooth.
5. Reduce the heat to low and gently fold the yoghurt mixture through the beans. Warm without boiling, then season to taste.
6. Coat the halloumi in cornflour, beaten egg and breadcrumbs. Fry in olive oil until beautifully golden and crispy.
7. Spoon the creamy beans into bowls and top with crispy halloumi, fresh herbs and pickled onion. Finish with extra harissa oil and a generous drizzle of Australian Black Lime Hot Honey.
Sweet heat. Smoky citrus. Creamy beans. Crispy halloumi. Absolute heaven. 🍯🍋🔥
