Hey everyone, Macca here. ❤️

I want to touch base about something that is incredibly close to our hearts at the moment.

Most of you know my little sidekick and pitmaster, our Evie. One of her little friends from daycare also named Evie and her beautiful family have recently had their entire world turned upside down.

Evie celebrated her second birthday on 26 September, and just one day later, while in Brisbane, her family received the devastating news that she has stage 5 bilateral malignant kidney cancer.

As a parent, this has hit me incredibly hard. You never imagine a family having to hear news like this about their little girl, especially when she should be spending her days playing, laughing, learning and simply being a kid.

Evie starts chemotherapy today, and we want her and her family to know that people are behind them, rooting for her and sending their love.

Right now, her mum and dad need to be able to put all of their energy into one thing — being there for their daughter.

They shouldn’t have to worry about how they’re going to keep up with bills, time away from work, travel, appointments or all the other financial pressures that can come with something like this.

So the HUGHESEY QUE family wants to do what we can to help carry some of that load.

And this is where we’re asking for the help of our incredible HUGHESEY QUE Nation, the Gladstone community, local businesses and our BBQ family.

We are putting together a fundraising raffle for little Evie and her family, with the money raised going towards helping them through what is going to be an incredibly difficult journey.

If you’re able to donate financially, there is a GoFundMe page set up for the family. Even $5, $10 or $20 can make a difference when a whole community gets behind someone.

We’ll be firing up the smokers at the Calliope Roosters football grounds for Beast Championship 14. We’re there to feed the event crowd, but we’ve also been given the go-ahead to serve everyone in Calliope. You don’t need to be attending Beast 14 to come and grab dinner from us!

Our Evie girl is lucky enough to be in the same class at daycare as this beautiful little Evie, and our hearts absolutely break for her family after hearing about her diagnosis.
