Sadly, we recently lost both of our hives to varroa mite.
It was a known risk; we had to decide whether to put toxic fumigation in our hive (and potentially, traces of it in the honey), or hope the bees would evolve and learn to look after themselves.
It's the stuff of sleepless nights for a family that strives for a chemical-free property.
We lost about 5kg of honey from one hive that was subsequently infested with hive beetle and wax moth😭, but managed to save the honey from our second hive before the hive was abandoned. So we still have some for sale, but we will regrettably run out at some point soon.
But we'll start again in Spring (swarm season).
There are new treatments emerging that claim to be the most organic yet, so we will look into these.
We've been blessed by the support of our community. Thank you so much.
