For a breeder focusing on polled is this almost hitting the jackpot?
Out of the dairy calves born we had 32 heifers , and 1 bull (that we’ve kept) in our winter/Spring batch.
5 are homozygous polled by pedigree.
There were a further 18 possible homozygous polled, with 11 of those 18 confirmed homozygous polled (with one heifer needing a retest due to an insufficient sample)
3 were PO with only one parent polled (so scored 100% polled heifers from that scenario)
4 were horned with both parents carrying the polled gene
3 were horned with no polled gene present.
So that is almost 50% of the batch homozygous polled (maybe more depending on the last result)
