Late Sun, green grass and plenty of guernseys… bliss!

It was an absolute privilege to open our farm up to the World Guernsey Conference Tour on Monday. 3 years of planning and some very busy days in the last few weeks but it all came together even with the weather gods threatening.
It always such a joy to share moments with other guernsey breeders and enthusiasts, many of whom feel like family.
We are so grateful to everyone who came along on the day, everyone who played a part in setting up and providing equipment, food and generally helping out on the day.

Thanks to Midfield Meats and UDC Milk for providing the lamb for dinner, Nutrien for the gazebo hire, the Glencoe Central Primary School Parent Club for cooking and serving tea and Glencoe Woolshed National Trust for a tour

Also a special thankyou to our farm staff and team of helpers who helped set up and provide dessets, provided transport around the farm and organised an impromptu ‘kangaroo spotting’ tour!

The day was everything by we could have hoped for and we hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.

1 week to go! We can’t wait to welcome the World Guernsey Conference Tour to Brookleigh next Monday 2nd March.
We are busy organising and prepping the farm for what we hope will be a great day. It’s been all hands on deck to update some tags, sort some decorations and check in with the girls to see if they are ready to show themselves off

The dust has settled on IDW 2026 and another successful show for Brookleigh.

Thanks must go to the crew at the show for getting the team out looking on point and the crew at home for keeping things running smoothly, even with a couple of surprise early arrivals in the calving pen!

A few results from classification day last week. The sun came out and the results were good.
We classified 42 heifers on their first lactation with scores finishing at 1 x G79, 7 x GP80, 8 x GP81, 16 x GP82, 7 x GP83, 2 x GP84 and 1x VG86
Highlights included:
⭐️ Brookleigh UA Ambush VG 86
⭐️ Brookleigh Bullet Presentation GP 84
⭐️ Brookleigh Lock Arerobreak GP 84

The cows also scored well with 9 new VG cows including 6 on 2nd lactation, 1 new Excellent and 1 repeat Excellent

A few snaps of this years silage cut. We were delayed by about 3 weeks with above average falls of rain for November. It has meant growing weather has been good and grass was not hard to find ending in a record cut for the farm. 118 loads, equating to over 100 tonne of feed into the pit for next winter. It was a big effort to cover the stack at the end so thank you to all the helpers who were able to throw some tyres.

The last of our photos from Adelaide Royal 2025 and one of the favourite heifers in our team. We think she has a bright future ahead and is joined to calve in February. We only have a handful of Goldmine heifers but they are all very much like this, looking forward to seeing them develop out especially if they produce udders like their dam, Miney (Amy has fond memories of chasing her around the barn at Coulee Crest during the 2019 World Conference tour trying to get the perfect photo)

This young cow is no stranger to the show ring or the winners circle. Amy has had great success with Besotted in the last couple years winning Junior Champion Guernsey at Adelaide and Mt Gambier show in 2023, 2nd place Junior 2 year old at IDW 2025 and now intermediate champion at Adelaide. She comes from a family who enjoy taking out this award with her granddam and auntie both winning this award previously. We are looking forward to seeing her calve down again in January.

Illusion made her show debut this year and showed us plenty of attitude. She calved in April and had one of the largest bull calves that we have seen but did not miss a beat in her recovery. We showed both of her granddams and think she has plenty of potential.
