We have come home on Sunday evening, after attending Tocal Field Days with our bull, Ulysses, and steer, Victor. A very busy time for all our crew, setting up the camp and the pens on Thursday evening, and packing up Sunday evening. The boys were happy and cooperative the whole time, but Victor, was exhausted by all the attention he got, and could hardly keep his eyes open!! We had a delightful time talking to so many enthusiastic folk, some of whom are looking for a small breed to do their mowing for them, so we are hoping to find a home in the near future for one or two members of our herd. We have cows n calves, and pregnant cows for sale. Plus Ulysses, our 4 year old bull, who is a proven sire, is looking for greener pastures. I am reluctant to sell our steer, Victor, who is one of the easiest going animals, we have ever had, but I would consider it for the right person, and set up.
First time we have had perfect weather at Tocal Field Days in years. And we got some bonus rain here at Glendon Brook, yesterday. So win/ win for us!

Happy Easter everyone!!
We have started slowly because it is back to being 7 AM, not 8 AM as it was, just yesterday. But we have to get moving. As we get ready for our first experience doing AI. We have 2 bulls here but they are related to the 2 cows we want to fall pregnant!!
See how we go with Step 1!

This evening the sunset was stunning! We still had the cold windy wintry conditions that hit us last night. It said 18 degrees on the BOM but also acknowledged that it felt like 8 degrees, and it certainly did!!

I remember the fun the kids had doing this last year! I am sure they will be looking for more fun again this year!!

What a great way to get the message out there! I hope you will be able to film the important bits at least! Who wants a dangerous gas pipeline going through their paddocks!? Noone I know and it is planned to go through parts of Glendonbrook!

It is going to be hard getting our Dexters ready for Tocal this year! We are using round bales to help with feeding, as well as a top up of Lucerne hay. But I think we will need to do more to get them into show condition. There is a promise of rain on Sunday, and it is cooler, which is a great relief but possibly not enough to get the grass growing! At least the dog is out keeping an eye on everything!!

So lovely to see such enthusiasm for this breed happening, and being supported as it is. We went to Nanango with 6 animals, when we were learning the ropes, and met some lovely enthusiastic folk, who helped us through the whole process. A great show, and lots of fun. Great to see Small Farms still supporting such endeavours.

Sunshine Coast Dexter Support Group is supportive and welcoming with a wide range of skills, understanding and depth of knowledge which spans more than 30 years of breeding and showing. Dexters are…

We are well into January, 2026, and we have found ourselves dealing with drought, followed by just enough rain to keep most of our trees alive. Our cattle are into their third delivery of round bales. The low level of our dam has meant Ron has used the pump from there to pump water from our big tank to fill our cattle troughs. And we have had several days over 40 degrees. On the positive side, we have enjoyed some cooler weather of late. So nice!

A slow afternoon after a busy morning. I can't believe how my energy levels have just disappeared. It has been horrifying to watch the unfolding tragedy that has occurred in Bondi!
