Hallelujah!!!! All the birdnetting is finally in....by looks of the sky we're in for some rain, which would've delayed bringing nets in...again!!
Very happy that job is over for this year.
Checkout the new doors on the train carriage where we store some of our netting 😊

Bob is getting the netting ready for winding in...it goes over the cab, down through a hoop & onto the large 'spool'

This past season was very 'late' in terms of getting grapes ripe. Usually, all of our 18 varieties are picked by mid-late April. ..this year many went unpicked & we had a pick a of Merlot & Malbec on 30/4..the latest we've picked these.
Next we bring the bird netting in ..3 steps ..1 &2.lift edges of the nets free from grass & place on top wire of the trellis, so grass can dry out & fall out.
3. nets are brought in...one person drives tractor & person on the back 'feeds' the incoming net onto a 'spool'...much like making a bobbin for a sewing machine, only much bigger!
All of this has to be done in dry weather. The 'spools' are made of cardboard. If the netting is wet when it's wound on, moisture can wick to the core & it will disintegrate.
As well as being 'late' with being able to bring nets in...ie late finish to harvest, it means we've had rainy days & windy days...so nets that HAD been lifted were blown awry & we had to re lift them all.
Finally we were able to bring nets in today that have been 'lifted' 3 times...

Just saw these mushrooms in our garden. They seem to be growing on a root of a Grevillea Robusta. Boot tip for scale!

A very foggy start to today, but there's blue sky above so should be a great day.
