Domaine Gerard Raphet Burgundy Arrival

The wines of Gérard Raphet are deeply charming and when we have them available they are always the first we recommend to anyone looking to explore the unique mystery of Burgundy. They are traditional in style but not old fashioned wines. They are immediately generous and approachable in their youth but in most cases will reward your patience if you can cellar for a decade or two. These are the wines of the forests and of the earth far more than they are of the winery and this is obvious to even newcomers to Burgundy.

The 2024 vintage is particularly appealing for Raphet, with the wines showing the Domain’s hallmark combination of aromatic purity, elegant structure & fine-grained tannins, while retaining the transparency of site that makes these wines so compelling.

Sébastien Christophe is one of Chablis’s most compelling success stories — a true underdog who built a celebrated estate from the ground up. When he returned to his family’s modest property near Fyé in 1999, he inherited just half a hectare of vines on land largely overlooked by the region’s storied houses.

Through sheer determination, meticulous vineyard work, and a deep respect for terroir, he has since grown Domaine Christophe et Fils into a 30-hectare estate with holdings across three of the region’s most coveted Premier Crus: Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaume, and Mont de Milieu.

What sets Sébastien apart is his precision and hands-on dedication: he vinifies distinct subplots according to their individual soil characteristics, sometimes maintaining a dozen separate vats within a single cuvée to preserve the purity and transparency each site expresses. His Montée de Tonnerre bottling in particular has earned acclaim, sourced from one of the smallest and most sought-after Premier Crus in Chablis.
