FUN FACT #7 — TWO LITTLE LAMBS, TWO VERY DIFFERENT BAaaaS!

Who needs name tags when you can tell your sheep apart by their voices?!

Our Babydoll lambs Tux and Truff each have their own little cute way of saying “BAAAA!” And after spending so much time with them, we know who’s calling just by listening!

Sheep use different vocalisations to communicate with each other. Lambs and their mums learn to recognise each other’s calls, helping them find one another even in a busy flock.

We might not speak sheep, but around here, we’re learning the language one little baaaa at a time!

Who’s the cutest?!

FUN FACT #6 — NEW HAIRCUTS, WHO DIS?

Well, look at our three little Babydolls go! Yesterday, Teddy, Minnie & Mabel had their very first full shear at 15 months old… and WOW, what a transformation!

Gone are the fluffy woolly coats, and suddenly our little sheep look like completely different animals! Those legs! Those little bodies! They can barely contain their excitement as they race around the grass showing off their new looks!

Sheep are shorn to remove their wool, helping keep them comfortable and their coats manageable. Their woolly fleece grows continuously, so regular shearing is an important part of their care.
I think Teddy, Minnie & Mabel are feeling a few kilos lighter today!

Same cheeky personalities… just a LOT less fluff and we can’t tell them apart anymore!!

FUN FACT #5 — AXEL’S SECRET WHITE TUMMY!

It’s Axel’s turn for a fun fact, and this handsome red Highland steer has a little secret hiding underneath all that gorgeous ginger fluff… Axel has a fluffy WHITE tummy!

The funny thing is, we hardly ever get to see it! It’s tucked away underneath his incredible coat, so it’s like his very own little hidden treasure. His long outer coat helps shed rain, while his softer, fluffy undercoat provides warmth and insulation. That lovely tummy fluff is part of nature’s clever design!

FUN FACT #4 — DUSTY’S FAVOURITE KIND OF RUB!

Dusty… mate, you’re supposed to be a Highland cow, not a big hairy house cat!

Dusty has officially entered do not disturb mode! I think we’ve found his happy place! Give this boy a good scratch in just the right spot and he’ll lean right into it. Those stretches are saying, “A little to the left, Larissa… yep, you’ve got it!”

Did you know? Highland cattle have a thick double coat, and just like other cattle, they can enjoy a good scratch in those hard-to-reach spots. A show stick can be a handy way to give them a rub, especially along their back and rump and Dusty is definitely a fan!

FUN FACT #2 — DOZER’S SHAME SHUFFLE!

We all know Dozer can move fast when he wants to… but did you know he has a specific toilet routine?

First, he heads to the furthest patch of grass in the home paddock to do his business… then takes off like he’s just committed a crime!

I didn’t even catch the getaway on camera — he was WAY too fast! This is him afterwards, puffing like mad with that “PLEASE DON’T ASK ME WHAT HAPPENED” look on his face.

Mate, you did a poo… you didn’t rob a bank!

Dozer: keeping the farm safe, snoozing on the job, and making the great escape after every poo!

Is this a Dozer thing? A Bulldog thing? A dog thing?

FUN FACT #1 - BUILT FOR THE RAIN

Rainy day in Goomboorian! Axel & Dusty are out for a stroll while our local kangaroos take shelter under the trees. Two very different approaches to a wet day!

But here’s your fun fact!
Did you know Highland cattle have a double coat of hair? Their long, coarse outer coat helps shed rain and protect them from the elements, while their soft undercoat helps keep them warm. Originally from the rugged Scottish Highlands, they’re well suited to cold, wet and windy conditions.

So while the kangaroos are taking it easy, Axel & Dusty have their own built-in weather gear!

Although, we reckon they’ll never say no to a sunny day and a good brush! And yes, they still got their brush today…

No rush… just me and the boys. 🩵💙

Some of the best moments at Damside Highlands are the quiet ones. No visitors today and I’m not the confident in front of the camera type, but I came away with some beautiful memories. (Thanks to my Apple Watch !)

Sitting in the paddock with Axel & Dusty, sharing a few pats, enjoying their company and letting the world slow down for a little while.

No agenda, nowhere to be, nothing to do but enjoy the moment together. There’s something pretty special about having two big, hairy Highland boys happy to sit beside you and soak up the attention.

I’m not interrupting their day - I’m part of it.

A special day at Damside Highlands!

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming my parents to Damside Highlands for some special time with Axel & Dusty!
There were brushes in hand, plenty of pats and two very happy Highland boys enjoying all the extra attention.

It’s moments like these that make what we do so special — bringing generations together, slowing down, spending time with animals and making memories that will hopefully be talked about for years to come. Axel & Dusty were more than happy to soak up the love, and we reckon the grandparents did a pretty good job of keeping the boys looking their best!

Thanks for spending time at the farm - helping with the boys and humans!!

Tag your grandparents that need this!
